Oil temp questions

Adding an Oil Cooler was one of the best mods I've done. I should of done this when I first bought the car.

Here in Socal it's been hot lately driving on the freeway with no traffic cruising about 75 my oil temps go no higher then 95 -100.

That's actually really bad...way too cold. Operating temps should be 180-200.

not to mention the stock oil temp gauge starts at 140...

i was out by palm springs last weekend, 106 degrees outside temp and i was pushing 230 - 240 on oil temp and i kept it below 3000 rpm for a good stretch. i plan on getting a oil cooler

I agree, 220 is perfectly normal. But I want to add that my dealer used a dufferent synthetic my last oil change, was cheaper too , than ester oil, and my temp seems lower by 5-10 degrees. Also, highway driving has a lower temperature than under normal street conditions. Its all normal if you read the manual.

Hi to everybody!

I found this threat regarding last oil change in my new 370z. After 7.000 km (about 4.300 Miles) Z became Millers XF 5W50. Stock oil was 5W30. Unfortunately I’ve noticed little bit higher temperature of oil while normal driving - about 5 degrees Celsius. Same conditions outside - about 14 degrees Celsius. I’ll try to check it on German highway soon, but maximum was always 110 degrees Celsius. Did somebody noticed same problem after oil change? Or should i forget this oil?

Your oil is too thick. Go back to 5W30.

May be normal but from what I've read recently the ECu is still pulling timing, thus costing your power . After a 3.5 hr. (On-way) mostly highway trip 2 weeks ago and seeing mine at at stead 230*, I'm adding a cooler with the thermostatic plate shortly.

There are so many people saying 5W50 is better for Z.... Some of them are sure, 5W30 kills engine after 30-40k km’s driving on the limit. And if you go to Germany, there is no way to drive easy like in my country.

These people you are talking to know nothing about engine oil. They are spouting bad information.

No. Thicker oil is not better in Winter - the opposite is usually true.

5W30 will NOT damage the engine; it's what the factory calls for.
