I removed the spring and reattached the holder just so I dont lose any of the parts Its not a bad thing to have it attached with out the spring right? I cant see how it would be.

nope thats fine, you can leave it with no spring at all in fact. The point of replacing the spring is to get rid of the "dead" pedal at the top and to add the lateral support back that the stock spring/assembly provided.
