Any luck? I didn't have a chance this week, but I might look around for a local spring supplier here next week if you have no luck.

I found a softer spring that somewhat fits at my local Ace hardware. The diameter was good, but it was too long so I had to shorten it. (EOM left, Ace Right)
![]() The problem of cutting it short is that I cannot get the cut end nice and flat. Look at the non-cut end or at the OEM spring and you will see how the end of the spring is bend back and ground off. I didn't have the proper equipment to replicate this. So when I put it back into the assembly it sits a bit crooked, it tilts to one side a bit: ![]() ![]() Once it's all installed it looks OK, but I am a bit worried about the long term effect of the crooked spring: ![]() So esfoutheen, put me on the list for a proper replacement spring, with nice flat ends. My hacked up one works for now, but I would like to have one that properly fits for the long run. Bottom line is: swapping the stiff OEM helper spring for a (much) softer one does improve the clutch feel significantly and it takes care of the slack at the top that would otherwise be there when you take the spring out altogether.

Lol this is starting to become a pretty good sized group buy.

Not sure the best way to go about facilitating the sale of the springs to everyone either, if I were to purchase/ship them myself I believe I would need some sort of vendor membership here which I'm not looking to do really (I think its like $100 a year). I'm certainly not looking to make any money here. |

My servo spring was fitted a bit sideways so it may have been loading the clutch M/cyl push-rod.
End result? absolute magic and very many thanks for the idea. The pedal feels just like my Brabham. I did this to a 365 GT in 1970 and had forgotten that great success on the much bigger problem of diaphragm clutches (then a new idea) not engaging at high RPM. Further: most folk seem to want a gas pedal giving instant response, whereas I prefer more movement for less RPM so I can feel tyre grip in th wet or on snow....a problem for me, but not for some apparently. That problem vanished some time ago by raising the floor with stiff foam. My foot thus contacts the hinged pedal higher up: more pedal movement for less RPM. Thanks again, Fritz This trick is magic, though I removed the bottom pin first and the rest fell off, leaving a small shaft hanging. |
