Happy that I am changing my CSC to HD CSC from Zspeed next month. As a preventable item. Peace of mind all the way!

Blighter 07-29-2015 10:46 AM

Just swapped my fluid with some of the RBF 600 stuff.

I have never had a CSC issue but I am monitoring the fluid weekly. I DD my car. No sure if the previous owner had an issue. car has 27k

smart man.. think about upgrading your clutch & flywheel while the transmission is open.

When you use the clutch are most folks pressing all the way to the floor?

I have began to just press until I feel the clutch disengage, and then I shift.

Maybe that will increase longevity?:icon14:

Forgive my ignorance of the law, but I noticed the other day, on the news, people filing a class action law suit involving an automobile defect. Could this apply here?

It could. Anyone a lawyer or have a family or lawyer friend?

MagmaRed370z 07-30-2015 07:32 PM

I think that the is a ratio or a percentage for this class action to work. I am not a lawyer but it makes sense.

Im pressing the clutch down a good 80% to the floor. I feel a lot better about driving, having my CSC replaced though.

I think this defect would have to have caused death or serious bodily harm due to this defect in order for that to happen, it would have to be a BIG problem, not one instance here and another instance there.

Not saying this issue isn't big, because it is, but those issues that you heard about on the news were huge.. The toyota accelerator problem, the GM ignition problem, these were BIG issues.

MagmaRed370z 07-30-2015 08:21 PM

imagine stopping at a railroad crossing and at the middle of the crossing your clutch pedal doesn't work.

or making a right at a busy intersection and then your car doesn't go.

Or getting thru a bad part of town and then you are stranded in there and cant do anything...

Ok guys I'm hoping someone can answer this quick question ASAP I'm taking my car in to get the sinking clutch fixed and I don't want to get played hah.

Does anyone know how long switching out the CSC takes, difficulty and usually how much that job costs? Just labor please let me know thank you!!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

JARblue 08-01-2015 10:18 AM

Labor just to drop the transmission is typically 6-8 hours by the book. Figure $80-120/hr depending on your area's shop rates.

After that the actual replacement of parts is easy, but they'll probably find something to tack on an extra hour or two. Don't forget to include the cost of parts.

FairladyZ40th 08-01-2015 11:22 AM

Dayum :/ alright then thank you for the 411 haha will definitely look into a mechanics class :)

eastwest2300 08-01-2015 10:16 PM

Basically if you take it to the dealer, you're more likely than not going to get screwed, if you take it to a reputable shop, you're likely going to get better parts (i.e.. Zspeed's or Z1's(CSC), and the actual labor at a lower price than the dealer.

Get a HD CSC from Zspeed with the insulated clutch line. Instead of resurfacing old oem flywheel why not upgrade with new CLUTCH kit/Flywheel Combo from ZSpeed also. Flush trans & replace fluid with MOTUL Gear Oil. Keep you old OEM Flywheel because you can sell online to recoup some bucks. Depending on your mileage you may want to consider replacing CMC too.

At a local shop that does a lot of Z work I was quoted $1800 including the new CSC and replacing the clutch/pressure plate.

I figured it would be a 7-8 hour thing, but it took me and a friend who owns a shop about 3 hours, not using any online guides or even the service manual and cost the price of the new CSC and a few packs of beer.

It looks like you are the first I have seen who has had spoken up about a CSC failure after RJM pedal install. How long have you had the pedal installed until your failure?

I probably had the RJM in for about 7k mi prior to the failure.

Sticky: (Official) 370Z Clutch Pressure (CSC) Failures

So I purchased a full kit that includes the (CSC/ pressure plate/ 6 puck clutch disc/ and a lightweight flywheel for $465 and got a master cylinder on the side for $75)

idk how much labor will be yet but I'll update haha

I had another question... Anybody know by any chance how much HP the STOCK DRIVE SHAFT can handle and what the material of the shaft is? I keep reading that they come CF stock. Is that true?

Dude, you totally got the hook up, where'd you get all those goodies for that price?

FairladyZ40th 08-03-2015 01:55 PM

I'll admit that it's not a big brand or anything but we gotta give the little guys a chance I'll post a link but I found it on eBay.

I don't mean to bash on your purchase, but XTD clutches do not hold up for very long. Most threads I have read complain about the disk friction material disintegrating and turning to powder, leaving nothing but bare metal on the disk puck or the pucks not wearing evenly. Also, they start to slip quick and don't provide the advertised clamping force/TQ numbers. The previous owner of my old Evo put in a XTD stage 4 with a sprung disk, and the springs actually seperated from the disk in 4k miles! I didn't know what was in there until I had it pulled and replaced with ACT. I will post a pic of the disk when I get home.

Well it's what I could afford in the mean time and I need to get my car quick so I'll give it a try any way and it comes with a warranty too so I'm not worried :)

Yeah bro I've never heard of that brand, thats definitely half the cost that I paid for my setup from zspeed, I'm not sure if ALL clutches & flywheels require "breaking them in" periods but if I were you, I would rather be safe than sorry, so your first 400 to 500 miles you wanna drive it, but nothing crazy. Whatever you do, don't go cheap on your fluids. (clutch reservoir & transmission).
