Yeah it is pricey the best thing you could do is find a good mechanic that knows nissans and have em hook it up. Fortunately and thank god I wa Los able to get in contact with a mechanic that works with Nissan :) and he's always been getting my back since I got my car

Got everything in the car now and car feels good
the lightened flywheel does make a difference in acceleration

What setup did you go with? Did you upgrade the clutch too?

zmanelite 08-07-2015 07:24 AM

Southbend stage 2 Clutch kit, DXD Black Flywheel 24 lbs , HD CSC and a new OEM master

FairladyZ40th 08-07-2015 09:19 AM

Hey guys quick question does any one know if it's ok to put DOT4 brake fluid instead of DOT3 in the clutch line. Apparently DOT4 is for higher temp and performance but idk if it's a good idea? Has anyone done it before or should I just stick to actual clutch fluid?

Its much lighter than the stock one, I believe the stock flywheel is 33 pounds.

zmanelite 08-07-2015 11:00 AM

^^^^ how's you pedal feel ? I think I might have a little air in the system

Yeah you can feel the difference off the line with the new flywheel

As for fluid just splurge a little and just get RBF600

Im still in the process of breaking it in, and that could take a few months, I hardly drive my Z, but I did notice more pressure when I push the clutch in, did you see that as well? (Its kinda more effort to push the clutch in, basically)

eastwest2300 08-07-2015 11:13 AM

I'll be installing my RJM pedal tomorrow morning, I started checking everything out yesterday after work, I'll get home today, and pull out the driver's seat, so Im locked in for tomorrow morning.

zmanelite 08-07-2015 11:19 AM

Mine felt easier....hummm I'll have to try and bleed it a few more times

Nevermind DOT 4 is acceptable and highly recommended over DOT 3 but NOT DOT 5 ok?

Yeah I don't think it should be soft if you've upgraded. The stiffer the more pressure you have and the more effective the mechanism works. Maybe you should check your lines for loose screws just in case you're losing pressure somewhere? Food for thought.

Yeah, mine has a lot of pressure, which I guess is a good thing.

Nothing yet, it looks like its a nice design.. Im half way done, I pulled out the seat, and I used a physical fitness mat, I laid on the floor, kicked my legs over the rear stabilizer and had at it with a flash light... I took my time before the sun was gone.

I got everything in, it was a pain in the azz.. I ended up messing up one of the clutch harnesses, so its on order.. Other than that, I don't see myself doing another one of those.. :icon17:

no thanks.

FairladyZ40th 08-09-2015 04:06 PM

ALRIGHTY GENTS!
I've got the stage 3 clutch installed! :D I've already got nearly 100 miles on it since last evening and I gotta say it's very strong and grabs awesomely :) I'm still seeing how everything works out with it my next update will be after the 500 mile mark. Then again at 1000 miles. I pray the clutch doesn't give out on me haha when I first got the car it was making a little rumble noise but to me it was was just the settling. Eventually the noise subdued now it's quieter and settling still. My only concern and issue is that I have to basically launch hard at a light constantly and I'm afraid of having issues with the law later. Anyway that's my experience thus far with the XTD Stage 3 Clutch Kit & Xlite Flywheel :) oh and yes the flywheel come at about 8-10 lbs lighter than OEM.

How much did the Install end up costing?

FairladyZ40th 08-09-2015 05:33 PM

My mechanic hooked me up for $600 and he works at the Nissan dealership I payed ~$550 for the kit including slave cylinder and master cylinder.

Any web devs out there? It shouldn't take long to create a web-based submission form with e-mail and captcha, and maybe use an SQLite database. I can get a simple UI started. That way we can move away from the shared access to the file on my Google Drive. Of course, we'll need to encrypt the e-mail addresses to prevent scouring from data miners, hackers, and spammers.

I'm joining this elite group at 58,000 miles. Luckier than some not as lucky as others. Now have to decide whether to upgrade the clutch/flywheel or not.....

At 58k I would just do everything and save a couple bucks in the long run
Get a lighter flywheel as it does make a difference in acceleration

Looking at this with new OEM Master and the HD CSC. I think this will handle my future FI hp. Looking for FI in the 480 hp range. The car is still about 70% daily driver. It just doesn't see much rain anymore as I drive my truck on those days. ZSpeed Performance Nissan Infinti OEM & Performance Parts

FairladyZ40th 08-14-2015 11:28 PM

Ok so I'm at the 550 mile break in point with the clutch. It shifts smoother than before and suddenly my Z began doing a lot of blow back/gargling noise... It pushes hard/strong and it definitely picks up speed and has better acceleration.

However, I'm concerned with the sudden excess or increase in blow black. Also, I basically have to burn out every time I launch because it grabs instantly. She "barks" when I shift up and the traction control comes on more often also. Any thoughts/opinions welcome!

Fairlady
We both have the same year/model but I haven't had to do the flywheel/clutch thing yet. Could it be that with your lighter flywheel and new clutch the tight window to get a clean shift got narrower? The engine will be accelerating and slowing quicker because of the light flywheel and the new clutch is grabbier so if those to events meet between shifts it's going to buck more than normal? Sometimes I see the traction light for a second or get a buck because of the split second out of gas before the clutch is down with my original 30k clutch.
By the way, I like the idea of getting a lighter flywheel when I eventually need to swap out the original (I had the dealer fluid swap out when the clutch failed and it actually has been over a year and its still good).
