Not a bad idea although I am not confident my car clutch pedal to drive down.

Yay my CSC went out today mid canyon drive
I was able to limp it home , I ordered stage 2 clutch , flywheel , master and csc from Z1

About a year ago my clutch PEDAL broke, shearing off the helper spring mount. The pedal became very sloppy and difficult to shift but I replaced it with the RJM adjustable pedal and was very pleased with the results. Thanks to this website though I have since known to keep a close eye out for any CSC issues.

The car is my daily driver and I generally baby the car around town, although I have been to a few HPDEs with it. I currently run PFC 665 for the clutch line. Two weeks ago while changing my engine oil, I noticed that the Clutch reservoir fluid level was getting very low . Prior to this, I had not had any problems with the clutch line and had it flushed at least once before. No puddles or leaks were noticed under the car or on the bottom of the transmission. I ordered the ZSpeed CSC and parked my car for a week (make sure you have a spare car if you own a nissan or anything British).

I am lucky enough to have a good friend that owns a shop with a lift, and today the two of us swapped out the CSC. The entire procedure took roughly 3 hours, and was made much easier by slightly dropping the front subframe to help tilt the transmission down. The clutch disc was noted to be plenty thick still - which is great since I didn't order a new one. Car is now doing great although the engagement point is slightly lower and grabbier, two things I can adjust with the RJM pedal.

Before I did the work myself I went to a Z shop locally and was quoted roughly $950 labour + parts. I ended up doing it myself with a friend for the price of the CSC and a few good beers (Dogfish Head, Aviator, and DuClaw).

As much as I love this car, I will say that I have been pretty disappointed by the build quality and random issues I've had - breaking clutch pedal, CSC failure, axle click, engine oil overheating, and clear coat bubbling off all over.

Crazy stuff. Nissan needs to get their act together. I might do mine on a lift (ordered one today) so it's good to hear it's not too bad. Did you use the how-to from the forum here? Any other tips? I'll have to hit you up on how to lower the subframe.

Yeah, If you haven't complaint on the Nissan Facebook page go ahead and do that. Also put a complaint under the File a NHTSA Complaint (Link on the first post of this thread)

The pedal hit the floor so I pulled it back up , I checked the fluid and it didn't look like I lost any
After the car sat for a bit and cooled the pedal had a little bit of pressure, I put the car in second gear and pressed the clutch in and pushed the start button
The car lurched forward and started walking due to the starter , the car turned on and I took off
I shifted to 3rd no clutch and got onto the hwy , after a few miles and the oil temp went down I checked the pedal and had about 75% of pressure , that was good enough to get me home

I'm gonna change tranny fluids while the clutch gets changed
From what ive readf Motul 300ls for manual tranny and rear diff is the way to go
Any other oils I should look at ?

I do not trust they have actually figured out the problem after reading everyone else's story on here that has experienced the clutch pedal losing pressure and going to the floor. I still think my best option is to get rid of this car. I have had way to many issues (2 engines, etc, smh) with this car and I bought it fairly new 7k miles currently at 42k.

This sucks.I bought my car so i would not have any problems such as this (even though i have an extended service agreement) .

Southbend puts out a good clutch kit. I went with the ACT HDSS clutch kit with a ACT Streetlite Flywheel 19lbs. I happy with it. It did require a 300-500 mile break-in period. Luckily I have not experienced any Flywheel chatter.

I should be picking up my Z tomorrow night from AAM.. (hopefully). They've had it since Friday, as soon as the shop opened.

That's good news! Did you go for transmission flush & MOTUL Gear Oil also?

I had a clutch failure at the end of a track day this past week. The clutch pedal literally dropped to the floor. I was stuck for 10 minutes, after which the pedal had lifted about an inch off the floor, allowing me to get in gear and make my way back to my spot in the paddock. After 20 minutes with the engine off, the clutch returned to normal. Fluid level was normal, so I suspect the clutch fluid had boiled after a long day on the track. I just put in an order for an insulated clutch line from ZSpeed...anyone have any experience with this line? I'll also replace the clutch fluid with Motul.

I am using the insulated line from ZSpeed. I've had it along with new HD CSC, CMC, ACT Clutch Kit, & new FLYWHEEL for about 2 weeks now. Completed 500 mile break-in of new clutch kit and so far have had no problems. I'm using GTR Fluid for clutch hydraulics & MOTUL Gear Fluid in transmission. It should be noted that I did not track or push it to the limits during break-in period. I'll start doing that in the upcoming weeks and post results.

Fixed my post... I wouldn't be surprised if mine is on it's 2nd CSC either.

This is my Z this guy is talking about after all

http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-p...59m402001.html

I knew of the thread before I pulled the trigger (I googled the vin), The transmission was replaced under warranty 5 years (15k miles) before I bought it...

I would think they did the transmission flush, as they did do the CSC which required them opening up the transmission. At this point Im not sure, this is why I cant stand handing my car over to shops. (you just never know)

It doesn't require opening up the transmission... When mine was done, they didn't drain the oil. Just unbolted and pulled it down. You can always ask your mechanic. My friend that did mine just did what was required and covered under warranty... I ended up bringing it back literally 2k miles later for the 30K service. :tiphat:

It should be noted that I did not track or push it to the limits during break-in period. I'll start doing that in the upcoming weeks and post results.

Interesting, I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and replace the CSC/CMC as well. I don't have any problems with the clutch aside from the heat issue. Is there any difference in feel? I suppose it's hard to say because you also replaced the flywheel.

Cheers!

Big difference in the feel of the clutch with the lighter flywheel. Rev's much faster, quicker shifts that are much more smoother. Downshifting I've found it better to "Heel / Toe" (Brake & Rev).

Just a thought, before my CSC gave out my car had problem starting. So I often had to depress the clutch pedal very hard several times before the car would start, which I believe led to CSC failure.

I think if I hadn't stomped on the clutch so many times the CSC might not have failed when it had.

does anyone know the ratio or percentage(if one is needed) needed for a recall to be issued. so far 90 cars out of tens of thousands sold doesn't seem like a high percentage of cars having a default.

Good question, I would like to know that too. We might be missing a lot of the G37s and people with Z34s that had this issue and a)are not in this forum b)fixed it and didn't report it c)had the issue and its not documented.

Could be, but I'm no mechanic. There are two sensors at your clutch pedal that I know of, 1 for cruise control & 1 for starting vehicle. If you should happen to have difficulty again with starting, I think it may just require a minor adjustment at the pedal. There was a link with pictures on the370z.com that explained how to make adjustments for those sensors. If it were Me, I'd take it to a shop to make adjustments because it is a pain in the a** to lay on my back with my head up under the dash.

I think it takes some serious injuries & or deaths before anyone takes recall action. Basically Nissan doesn't give a SH*T !

It looks like you are the first I have seen who has had spoken up about a CSC failure after RJM pedal install. How long have you had the pedal installed until your failure?

Yes the car is back in my hands after staying at the shop over the weekend.

The most likely culprit was the 5 year old battery that I had in my car, so the battery has been replaced and the sensors and pedals have been adjusted. The car is starting like new again :icon17:

Oh I forgot to mention, I did NOT have a CSC failure or any sort of mechanical problem.

I have a 2010 with 8000 miles, I only replaced the CSC with the zspeed HD CSC as a preventative measure. I also went with a Southbend Stage 2 clutch, a Southbend billet flywheel, a new CMC, and a stainless steel clutch line.

Running redline fluid in the trans case, and RBF600 in the clutch reservoir.

I also just got my RJM in the mail today.. I'll be doing the install some time this week.
