I bet a lot more people than you think know how to drive a stick and just chose not to. There are 12 people at my office and one person that is 22 said he hasn't. Of that same group one guy owns a stick but it's not his DD, it's a mud Jeep.

JARblue 11-05-2015 09:12 AM

That FI flex plate is such sex :yum:

I can't use one on my car, but I'd mount one on the wall in my garage :icon17:

Fair enough. The 93% number is definitely inflated. As mentioned in an earlier post, it's probably just the percentage of ATs that are bought these days.

I still know dozens of people that have no clue how to drive a stick. And judging by how the other drivers on the road handle their ATs, I can't imagine most of them don't have any clue how to drive a stick either :twocents:

Porsche and customers alike love the PDK becuase... why not drive a fast car faster? That's great for the track and all but on the street? Meh. Sometimes a manual can be a small pain in my ***. Kinda like when you wake up thinking Presto put his finger in your *** but soon discover it isn't his finger and he's resting his chin on your shoulder giving it his all and you're like... dude. it is 3am. Go play halo or something. ;)

And I say that being stuck in VA/MD traffic on i495 daily with 6MT.

I leave my car running everywhere I go too, knowing nobody will take it since like 2 people still know how to drive standard.

Exactly. Like I said, traffic being an excuse for not driving manual is a really poor excuse.

I would rather drive an auto in traffic and I also want the faster shifting at the track. Thats not an excuse, there's is just no advantage to driving a stick to me these days. I've had a 240Z that was a stick and a Talon TSI but autos were not worth anything back then, its called progress.

It's called preference. I prefer driving stick because to me, and most others, it's the fun factor that counts. Driving auto is more practical, you have that. But most people use traffic as an excuse but hey, to each their own.

I know a guy who can't use paddle shifters. Like legit doesn't know how and he asked to drive my car

Okay there are some idiots that don't know how to drive a stick, it still doesn't make it rocket science. You push a pedal, change gears and let the pedal out, big deal.

Okay, I forgot the fun of a little gas and clutch. I enjoy feeling the car accelerate down a straight, hearing the tires scream as it pulls Gs in the turns and trying to brake from 130-30 to make a hairpin but if playing with a stick does it for you, who am I to judge?!

Having a MT doesn't prevent you from doing any of that AND you get to play with your stick. WIN-WIN :rofl2:

I always love the attempted comebacks from the manual guys. 9 out of 10 times it's them saying "you don't know how to drive a stick noob". always makes me chuckle.

ever think that a 7AT guy is fully capable of driving a manual but rather drive the better transmission choice?

take a moment if I blew you tiny little minds.

But you prefer to sit on the MT knob rather than use it to shift gears :wtf2:

BoneZ 01-19-2016 09:19 AM

I really wish the manual didn't have clutch problems. If not for that, I probably wouldn't have bought the auto. Nissan really let me down.

Haboob 01-19-2016 09:21 AM

I've started to enjoy the 6MT again driving around town, but I still think my next car will be a DCT auto still. Nothing less than a DCT though, so I guess I'm going to have to wait until they become a bit more mainstream in some more affordable cars. :(

No...The reasons have always been the same:

1. The AT transmission is WEAK!!!!
2. Spirited driving is always more enjoyable in a MT

the MT isn't much stronger and that's after you pay to change the CSC that WILL fail.

and as for 2 I honestly 100% have more fun ripping through back roads, highways, etc.... with 2 hands on the wheels grabbing paddles. not only am I safer i'm also quicker in many ways.

The MT is a fucton stronger. In fact nobody has figured out what it takes to grenade one. The AT lets go at about 350wtq. Try again.

you misspelled "fraction".

no one has found it because anyone who boosts it puts a new clutch in to handle it.
