I prefer the manual for it's quicker 60/quarter times and bullet proof CSC for spirited gear slamming.

I wouldn't even considering an auto when I started looking. I'm elated I did some reading here before I bought.

Ops, yes CSC. Been a long day.

The problem csc left a sour taste in my mouth because the car I was selling to buy the Z was forcing me to put in the third slave cylinder. With the frustration I had with the Camaro I couldn't force myself to buy something that was going to put me in the exact same situation.

yea i have heard the woes of CSC pain many times from friends.

i test drove 4 M6 Z's and not one was good.

test drove 1 7AT and bought the first one i found with my option choices.

D.Stillwell 10-05-2015 01:50 PM

Im just going to put the Ztune (whatever its called) CSC in at some point when I upgrade the clutch...

I bet a properly driven 6MT outlasts the 7AT easily, and its easy to work on manual tranny.

That's just my .02

I never read about the CSC before I bought, and looking back it doean't matter. I'd still take the 6mt for the fun factor, so what I'll have to replace CSC. As long as the engine is good...

let's put it this way, if you own a 6MT then you will need to replace the CSC. it goes on pretty much every single one. regardless of you beating the piss out of it or DD barely cracking 5k rpm lol it's a flaw in the design of the manual Z.

this is nothing. me playing with a few newbs and jwick lol

the AT v MT thread was great in its prime. its died down recently.

this forum itself has died down as a whole lately.

the one premium thread we typically frequent would go through 20-30 pages a day now its around 5 on avg. sad times.

D.Stillwell 10-05-2015 03:58 PM

Yeah I saw the AT vs MT thread, some good stuff there lol

Guess I joined the party a bit late eh.. Z has been around since 09...

Maybe when the Z35 is released this forum will pick back up.

I've grown to hate AT mode unless I'm in heavy traffic, I find the ECU is really clunky at high speeds and just got tired of it hitting rev limits. The only issue with M mode is that you have to do your shifts slightly early as sometimes it takes a little longer than expected and will rev limit as well. However when timed correctly the result is pretty pleasing, even surprising at times.

I have gone against other 370z drivers (who mostly stay in automatic)and left them behind about an entire car length, even more so if downshifts were required from any turns.

D.Stillwell 10-06-2015 10:47 AM

Thats why you get the 6MT. no automatic tranny shift lag...if one knows how to shift, that is..

this post is 100% inaccurate. you either hang out with people who cant drive or know nothing about the AT on this car.

the car regardless of tranny pretty much stops making power at 7200rpm so running it past that (your rev limiter hatred) is pointless.

i have never felt the need to shift "early" because of a delay. i hit shift and it goes. theres no delay. and any delay that there can be is minor compared to a manual shift. so that point is void as well.

as for your part about leaving autos a car length or more behind......I've gone against many and i still haven't lost :tiphat:

i have no problem with manuals and their drivers but i have problems with idiots.

:gtfo2:

mishuko 10-06-2015 10:59 AM

automatics will shift faster at lower rpm's going lower speeds hands down.

last time i checked they don't have to do a 1-2-3 count going from 1st to 2nd under 2.5k rpm

you could have the baddest driver on earth, doing no lift shifts on a 6mt and it will still be slower than the AT 370Z :tiphat:

Why do you need to shift fast under 2500 RPMs? I can do a quick shift at 2500 RPMs, but it's just wearing out the clutch faster.

At 7200 RPMs, a proper shift in the 6MT is imperceptibly slower than the same shift in a 7AT :twocents:

...........you mean at all speeds and all rpms.

:icon17: OK.

I'm not talking about going pass the rev limit, if you are in AT and slow down abruptly and on the apex accelerate again the ECU may stall from a rev limit, this has been encountered not only by me but many others on this forum.

How drastic the timing of the shift is is subjective, as you pointed out it is minor compared to a manual shift, however you are then acknowledging it's existence, and so am I, even though yes it is slight.

I'm not sure what track you go on, but my experience is on a really curvy track. Regardless this is a YMMV situation, depending on you, and who you are driving with, etc.. I just made it a point b/c I feel the combination of the down and upshifts may not be handled as well by the ECU as a human would.

I'm not referring at all to straight line street/drag racing.
