its still a manual :stirthepot:

mishuko 10-07-2015 11:55 AM

i think 90st has the strongest motor on record with most mileage.

on another note, i run stillen gen3 cai / cbe and i highly doubt i'd break 310 WHP after a tune. my humble goal would be low 30x's at the wheels.

my goal was 315 so when it came out at 324 i was pleased

so was your point to come in and back the manual choice or back your poor taste in vehicles? lol

Lemers 10-07-2015 12:14 PM

Even my Z was a manual when I had it. I think all performance vehicles should offer it.

to counter that i would say they all should offer auto. cayman GT4 had my interest until i read they left their amazing PDK tranny on the shelf for it.

mustang GT350(R) should have a strong auto maybe even DCT option but it's ford soooo that's a given.

manual isn't always better. i feel people just cant/wont admit that its outdated tech. :shakes head:

Lemers 10-07-2015 12:23 PM

It's not dead yet, because it takes a highly engineered and vary tech heavy auto DCT, PDK or what ever other "licensed" transmission they come up with.

Driving aids are usually frowned on by driving enthusiasts. I can see were there thrill in having the car drive itself comes from but it's not for me.

jpkirk 10-07-2015 12:26 PM

It is outdated tech, I agree. Still, I like shifting and the added tech of SRM works for me. Was watching the Motor Trend Best drivers video and the CTS-V, I think, has a rev kill switch so that you can shift with out lifting the throttle. So if you have rev matching and the throttle kill ... eh? Keeping it is much manual but adding automation. Kinda cool.

Still it was a difficult pick for me. Went with the manual with SRM. If it had been DCT, Ida spent the extra 10K. My wife wouldn't have but I woulda.

stubborn "enthusiast". i hate that word too. it's like a get out of jail free card to be stuck in one's ways.

that's like me saying Hitler was a camping enthusiast.

I see you are from Turkey so I'll help you. Nothing that comes out of Presto's mouth is serious. All of it is to lead you into whatever end joke he has in mind. Sometimes, meaning almost always, they are distasteful but you'll get used to it.

Point???

Manuals, although 'out-dated tech' put down more power as they have less loses thru the train than the shitty slush boxes you have such a difficult time removing your penis from.

in the Z the difference of power loss through the drivetrain is 2-4% difference which in most cases equals 5whp.

so you take the 5hp and i'll not miss a gear, shift faster, have better gearing, and walk on manuals all day.

:tiphat:

D.Stillwell 10-07-2015 12:49 PM

^^ lol

I'll just say this, regardless of how good the autos are nowadays...Every single car purist always picks manual...even Porsche (which you mentioned) said they will keep offering cars with manual only for the true enthusiast drivers out there...

Only thing an auto might be better for is SLIGHTLY faster straight line acceleration...nothing else, and it takes no skill to mash the gas pedal or push a paddle to shift..

I say that owning a 4AT Maxima with TransGo shift kit, so I'm not hating.

It's kind of like the dudes driving AWD Subie STI's thinking they can drive good and handle...but get into a proper RWD car and crash. And also get taken by any Z with proper driver in both straight line or esp. in the twisties.

the auto still does well in twisties not just the straight line portion. just fyi lol

abm89 10-07-2015 12:53 PM

The difference in shift time between an automatic and a manual won't matter on a circuit.

Also using a manual successfully on a track is far more rewarding that pulling some plastic paddles. All of our fastest Z times on our local track are set by 6MT at the moment.

FPenvy 10-07-2015 12:55 PM

i love how the MT defense is always "the feeling is more rewarding playing with my little stick" :bowrofl:

yea well going full blast grabbing paddles feels great (and much safer) than you fondling a stick. :tiphat:

and my success rate in shifting in the AT is 100% bitches lol

Folks who love they Manual let them have it but don't hate on "US" AT guys. After all we spank manuals all day. Records books shows it. If the manual guys likes to shift that's cool but to each its own.

Well if you want to put this to the test we can arrange a track session for you to back up your impressive confidence.

I know we're hosting a Z only track day later this year. if you can beat my times, i'll gladly leave this forum. Hell, I'll even keep my used RE-11s on my tiny little "bitch 18s" that you referred to in another thread.

Lies!!!!!:gtfo2:

Furthermore key word your track. And like I aforementioned before equip both Z's (Auto/Manual) with the same power lets see who will have the fastest time and who will win.....

Having had a 6MT 350z for 10.5 years then going to the 7AT for the 370z:

Paddle shifters=fun

But for routine commute I mostly drive left handed so upshifting is a hassle...

The problem with spirited 7AT driving is late braking for a corner and being sure you've downshifted from 5th to 2nd keeping an eye on the apex and not having to look down at the read out to be sure the computer let you do what you think you did.
What I need is for (should I patent this thought?) the automatic to have a manual mode SHIFT pattern, a drive by wire shifter to go with the d-by- wire throttle!

Come on aftermarket!!

D.Stillwell 10-07-2015 01:03 PM

^^ 100% because you're not shifting...the computer is... :tiphat:

In a 6MT, its YOU actually shifting, mechanically, not thru a torque converter.

And as for the twisties, hell no the auto has ZERO advantage over 6MT around turns. I only mentioned areas where 7AT may be better, and straight line acceleration is the only one. Other areas there is zero advantage to an auto..

Straight line drags and muscle car races are for autos, real track driving around turns is for 6MT.
