Default Transmission play?

Anyone else notice that something about the transmission needs some serious stiffening? I think the tranny and diff mounts are too soft. Shifting should have a way more positive and precise feeling to it. The throws are short and its a decent gearbox, but there is too much movement.

For example in those low speed on/off throttle situations you can hear the whole thing rocking back and forth with the load. This was also a big problem for the subaru folks, but it can definitely be fixed with some urethane bushing upgrades.

I wonder if it was done to keep NVH down..I'm sick and tired of it though.

If any vendors want to develop urethane bushings. I would be willing to help + test.

Discuss.

Z1 performance manufactured a prototype stiff transmission mount but due to lack of interest they didn't make any more, wish someone else would jump on this!

Truth!

Some people, theDreamer and a few others, tried to revive interest in this but I think it came to no avail.

Urethane Transmission Mount
RCZ already voted yes, but the thread died around 15 people, but maybe I can get them to build it for 15.

I just sent a PM to them again to see if they will build it for the 15 people who said yes, maybe?

Totally agree. Coming from an s2k which arguably has one of the best gearboxes in the world, this is taking a bit getting used to. I know exactly what you're talking about RCZ.

That's an undeniably true statement. The day I drove my first S2000, my face went something like this . Amazing gearbox.

Hopefully you guys get this heavy duty mount made.

^ Thats one of the things it will do.

I hear you tbone and AK, I came from an STI with every upgradable bushing i could find and it was the most amazing clicky feeling when shifting. No side to side play in gear at all, no guessing whether the gear was in or not and very short throws.

I also had something called the "klunk killer" kit which added lock bolts and a few other things. Let me show you all the stuff there is available for that car, I'm not sure how applicable it is for the Z, but I'm sure someone with more detailed knowledge about or chassis will chime in.

I'd be interested if the pricing was reasonable.
