Default Engine rattle upon shutoff.

If I have my driver door open as the engine is running (I have the door open to better hear the engine bay), when I push the start/stop button to shut the car off, I hear a quick rattle/knock-like noise as the motor winds down to a rest. The noise seems to be coming from the motor or somewhere in the engine bay. Anyone else notice this? I know the VQ37 isn't the quietest of motors, but just wanted to know if this was normal.

yes that noise is coming from the clutch/flywheel assembly of the transmission and it is normal.

I have the same issue and just noticed it tonight. I have 200 miles on the car so far and have not noticed it before. I was actually nervous when I heard it for the first time while parking in the garage tonight. The engine makes a knocking noise when I shut it off.

I also noticed a faint vibrating and rattling noise with all feet of the pedals; however, it goes away when i depress the clutch while I am in neutral. Is this normal also? I am worried the bearing or flywheel may have issues.

thats probably your input shaft making noise JJ. when the clutch is depressed you cut power to it so it stops spinning but in neutral with the clutch out it is freewheeling with the engine. as for the knocking on shutoff could be a lot of things might be the flywheel but mine doesn't do that so i don't know for sure.

You folks have entirely too much time on your hands. Do you ever use any time of yours to just enjoy your car?

You are using at least 91 Octane fuel, right?

I love the car ZKinda!! I just ran across this post and wanted to let the OP know that other people have the same issue. I am definitely not concerned at all, the tranny on this car is noisy and just takes a bit of finnessing. As for the noise on shutdown, I think it is just everything winding down.

Push in the clutch when shutting it off. It should be near-silent.

Rattle happens when I just shut it off without pushing in the clutch.
