Open Diff To Quaife - How Many Shims and What Sizes?

Is this something I can order beforehand to fill the need, or will I not know until reassembly? Having a shop do the work, but want to cover the bases.

Only one size listed at conceptz, z1 has several.

You will not need any shims with a Quaife.

It will fit with the existing shims?

Can you elaborate on why it won't need shimmed? Not doubting your mad skills but...is the tolerance on Quaife of epic proportions or is there some other reason it will be centered perfectly? Obviously I'm somewhat ignorant to the ins and outs of differentials. Appreciate your time!

No worries! Most the aftermarket diffs come totally ready to install and are plug and play. Especially the helical diff like Quaife and Wavetrac. In rare cases you may need to adjust the lash. Even the OSG I got needed no additional shims. I believe Cusco gives you and option of gear setup and shims. I know in clutch type they can be customized for power and traction but it really doesn't require any additional shims.

I am sure Rusty and others can elaborate on the particulars but you should be good to go.

In my OS Giken. I reused the old shims. I got almost the same back lash. I did a Wave Trac for someone else and reused the same shims. In a rare occasion, you might need different shims. When you take it apart. Mike the thickness of the shims and mark which position they came from. If they are a different thickness, and you can't get the backlash close. You can swap the shims around.

True! My CUSCO required shimming on installation.
