Oil Cooler Questions..

I see most people have there oil cooler hoses coming out from the top of the cooler is there a reason installing this way? How do you drain old oil

I see most people have there oil cooler hoses coming out from the top of the cooler is there a reason installing this way? How do you drain old oil if your hoses are on top? Does installation of the oil cooler void warranty? Thanks.
