ZForce, what do you think of Amsoil SS0W-30? Is this what your running? This is the first time I have ever used Amsoil....

Amsoil has it on its website as a recommendation for the VQ37 VHR 370Z along with these other weights:

https://www.amsoil.com/a/synthetic-motor-oil-engine-oil

Engine Oil
Grade 1......API*
Signature Series 0W-30 100% Synthetic Motor Oil (SSOQT)
SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (ASLQT)
XL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil (XLFQT)

I have personally not tried any of the Amsoil motor oil. They have a great reputation (and expensive) versus other off the shelf brands. They are for long drains hence the $$ and I guess you would break even if not save by using their long drain oil.

I ran Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 during my initial drain(s) (a lot of drains during the first 1500 miles). And have since switched to a more stable and consistent formula recommended by dyson labs. It’s very $$ and is for longer drains hence I probably break even if if not a bit ahead if I were to use Nissan Esther based oil.

I am going off topic again and suggested this on my first post on this thread that a new topic thread should be opened up on used oil analysis. A place to start posting reports from used oil analysis. If you want to know which is best for the VQ37 VHR then I would highly recommend reading Will’s thread on my350z VQ Oil Analysis and Info - MY350Z.COM Forums on Oil and Used Oil Analysis, The first post has a chart on Amsoil oils. Even though it’s based on the VQ35 there is still a lot of information on his thread and what works on the VQ35 will probably be also good in the VQ37.

Keep in mind that the only way to find out what will work best in your car AND for your type of driving is to have a Used Oil Analysis performed. Will (Resolute) wrote up a thread either on this forum or one of the other 370Z forums on Nissan Ester based oil. Check out on his first page of thread on my350z the section on Ester based oils.

Personally I have found and read that Nissan Esther based oil is ONLY recommended IF you hear the clanking sound from the valve train. I never heard it with Pennzoil Platinum nor the oil I am currently using.

You can search my used oil analysis (UOA) on Will’s thread, I am ZeeForce on my350z.

Cheers
Curtis

That goes on the oil drain plug. Be sure to get the old one off before you put the new one back on.

Yep, the copper washer squashes up and forms a good seal on the drain plug. Reusing the old one may not seal properly since it has already been squashed. It really isn't worth risking an oil leak for £1 (or probably $1 for you!)

Here's a picture of my old drain plug with squashed washer and my new magnetic one with a new washer on:

I changed my oil for the first time yesterday. Thanks for this guide. The suggestion of using the electric driver on the bolts and the water bottle as a funnel was inspired and saved me loads of time

I just went to Autozone and spend $0.99 on a dedicated oil funnel.

Never seeing the underside of this engine, is that large pipe next to the filter the exhaust???

After looking at some of the pics that have been posted, I'm wondering if the longer oil filter sits closer to the hot exhaust pipe??? Is it possible that this could contribute to higher oil temps?

Naw, you're probably referring to the sway bar (black thing in the pic below). The exhaust is quite a bit further back.

Schrute,
Many thanks, looks like I'm going to use the larger filter.

Purolator "Pure One" it will be then along with a little Red Line... Sounds like I'm making a cocktail.

I just switched to red line and let me tell you what .. This oil is awesome . I had the engine tick and had the tsb done with nissan ester oil . Still there . Mobil 1 is garbage , made it worse. I tried Amsoil , Motul and Royal Purple. All of these did not work . I put Red Line in and guess what ?? No tick and engine is alot smoother . I will only put Red Line in my G .. Awesome oil !!!!!
