Yeah that's the plan -- I already have the Blackstone stuff in my garage. Problem is I work from home and just don't drive that much (not that I'm complaining, mind you). I've had my Z since Jan.9 and I only now just reached 3100 miles! So it'll be a while!

i am hoping i man up(change the oil my self) so i can get some UOA done on the ester oil so we can all learn and compare.

I will hold off on the magnets until i am done sampling oils and find one thats good then i will magnet that one.

Has anyone tried Torco? I've been running it in my integra. It's pretty awesome.

Welcome to TORCO ADVANCED LUBRICANTS Website 2007

i've no clue about the technical data, but switching over from Mobil-1, my car just felt more "willing" to go. sort of like how your body feels when you're well fed and energized as opposed to hungry and tired.

Wow.... That's a lot of stuff to remove to get to the oil filter! Good thing it's synthetic!!!

I change my oil every month. If I had to pull all that crap off just to get to the filter, I'd wait the entire 3000 miles.

also im not sure how it works but blackstone can tell you how much oil life is left depending on what you pay? i cant remember.

but on alot of UOA they say your oil could have went alot more miles dont change it as often or change it more often. And some they dont mention.

I suspect its how much you pay though.

I think starting a separate thread on oils may be best instead of clogging up this DIY... just a thought.

That's the TBN number, it's an optional add-on for more $$ per anaylsis at Blackstone. Ripped from A Quick Guide to Oil Analysis Tests :
The Total Base Number (TBN) is a measure of the reserve alkalinity in engine oils. Because acids form in the oil (sulfates and nitrates), lubricants are manufactured with a high alkaline count to counteract the acids. TBN should never be a problem if the proper lubricant change intervals are followed. If the change intervals are lengthened too much or skipped, then acids that form will consume the alkaline reserve of the lubricant and advanced corrosion of the engine parts will ensue.

Default Drain plug washer.

Hi all,
the magnetic drain plug that I bought came with a solid washer.
Am I supposed to disregard this and just use the copper crush washer
that I bought from the dealer? Or use both?

thanks.

I simply used the copper one from the dealer. I don't see any point of using both.

Can you just use the washer that comes with the magnetic plug (I just bought the plug)?

In fact, even if you don't use the magnetic plug, why not just switch to a flat nylon washer (like many cars have) that can be re-used at each oil change? Is there anything that sacred about the copper crush washer?
