Anyway, got around to installing the one I bought recently - the STP CAF1766 - it looked to be about 1/4" deeper than the original one that was in there but it all ended up fitting fine.

Here is a pic of the stock filter that was in the car from day one:

my G's glove box rattled at the meaty hinge until i put a plastic sheet in the hinge to shut it up.... so for me, i would not want my Z to have the same rattle from the hinge.

Despite taking out all the screws, mine won't pull out. What's the trick?

First, make sure you got all the screws. Then give it a good yank towards you. There are two locations where it clips in. See the photo below - you can see one of the clips under the red arrow on the right.
