I believe Z1 motorsports now offers 2 piece rotors, I'd try them first.

CZP's look REMARKABLY similar to DBA's, lol same weight too!

And Z1's are supposedly lighter but DBA's are cheaper. (When I ordered I got DBA's for $150~less shipped)

No the czp's are made by dba but use a different rotor and hat so the are 4lbs lighter than the dba 2 piece

edit: so the CZP's are 21.8lbs each and are 595.95 for the set and the z1's are 20lbs. each and are 649 for a set. the dba 5000's are 25.8lbs each and are also 595.95 a set.

i was wondering if any one had experience with them. also whatever happened to those racing brake rotors other than them being really expensive?

Mine are holding up really good. Have 6 trackdays on them with about 2,000 street miles. I'm happy with them so far.

Are you sure?
DBA everywhere I have seen says 23lbs, and CZP says 23lbs...

I'll go recheck

LOL, We're totally beating a retarded horse, I don't mean to argue at all, I am just thinking CZP should get their own facts straight. (At the top of the page you posted it also says 23lbs, LOL)



If they are using the same DISC as DBA, do we really think they can save an EXTRA 3-4lbs JUST on the already aluminum hat?
Or are they using a thinner disc? Or are they using a disc that has less... Um... (outside diameter is the same, but the inside diameter is larger so it is less disc, and less cast iron? But then IMO you're really close from pad area to the edge of the aluminum)

That is something I fear with the Z1 rotors, yes, lighter is better, but if there isn't enough meat, the disc are more prone to warping, and if Z1 is choosing a thinner walls for each side of the rotor... I'll pass too, a bit extra life if worth it to me, as well as the warping factor...


And I think the kangaroo paw may not be the "best" for air flow, but I like that the meat is equally distributed vs vanes.

As a LONG TIME member on the team for this project, this was another project that I spent a great deal of time on. The thing you have to keep in mind is that many companies will use what they have to save cost. DBA may already have a hat that will work, but may leave excess weight on the rotor assembly. To save cost on their end, they increase the quantity of a single part # without having to R&D additional parts. This may also be true with the iron portion.

The Z1 rotors have been tested both on and off the track in just about every conceivable way we could. We placed a great amount effort in getting the perfect fit while minimizing the iron portion's size (reducing weight). The hat was designed to be as large as possible while clearing all other components. Since this rotor design was done specifically for this model Z, we were not concerned about using multiple, commonized components.

As far as warping the rotors...anything is possible with the right (wrong) driver and given scenario. Even the most expensive BBK's can be destroyed in a single session by a rookie who doesn't know what they are doing.

In regards to the thickness of the irons, they are appox. the same as OE. The center section may have been widened slightly in order to accomadate increased cooling, but not enought to greatly alter the life expectancy of the rotors.

I'd usually agree... But I can show you a scale saying my used OEM rotors weigh 20lbs, lol

And maybe they have taken 100 pictures of different rotors on scales and they chose the wrong pics, I think that's possible.


Dustin, I agree with probably everything you wrote. DBA probably said, these fit, these fit, presto, new PN for the 370Z.

After installing my DBAs and driving with them.
What I quoted above is DEFINITELY what CZP is doing. There is a half decent amount of cast iron that is left over, or where you could trim weight
