OEM Brake Fluid for track

Hey guys,

How critical is getting better brake fluid for track day. I have a sport package with brand new pads, rotors and fluid.

Thoughts?

LOL...it just depends if you want to spend your time tracking or not...upgrade your brake fluid and get SS brake lines and you will be good to go!

Track it and see how it goes, after track day is over replace all your fluids at once

You have track experience or plan to do a lot of threshold braking? Then definitely upgrade at least lines, pads, and fluid.

First time on the track or plan to be easy on the brakes? You might be ok with stock pads and fluid.

If it were me, I know I would hate to waste money on a track day that ended early because my car wasn't prepared

Don't do it. Unless you're comfortable driving a lap or two without brakes.

Go with Motul 600... In the clutch too. You might be OK if it's your 1st track day. After that change it and upgrade your pads. You probably want to get an oil cooler too. Then better tires... and then the list will continue to grow quickly!

Fluids are the most important upgrade for the track and the one that should be done *before* your first time out. You can easily boil the OEM DOT3 fluid in both the brakes and the clutch...I've done it and Car & Driver did it 6 years ago when they first reviewed the car.

Motul 600 is good, but Castrol SRF is the best. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for -- I've never boiled SRF and never had to bleed the brakes between events.

After your first day out, you'll likely want pads, tires, and all the other good stuff. But do the fluid first!

Change your brake fluid to a better fluid. If you have a manual. Change the fluid in that system too. And wrap your clutch line down by the exhaust pipe with with insulation. This will help to keep from boiling the fluid there, and your csc crapping out.
