big- one more q... im getting the rear camera this week and was
wondering how you ran your camera wire into the rear bumper's
license plate area.

the pict below shows where im running the rear foglamp wires
and also where i grabbed the orange reverse wire for the HU.
(this is the driver side rear trunk wall)

is that the same grommet you used to run your camra wire
through? i dont think the pioneer camera's wire comes off so
i would need to wire from the license plate area back into the
grommet which is going to be pretty tricky since i would have
to go diagnally and up...

any other good holes to try? worse case im going to
drill a new hole. :D

thanks.

Okay this is were it gets a little complicated. Start were your licenses plate lights are pop the one on the side that you are going to have the camera out. Than put the wire threw that space, than crawl under the z. find the wire and pull it towards you. than that grommet you see in the picture pop it out towards the front of the car. have a friend shine the light threw that hole. Go under the car and find that hole run the wire threw the hole. Than make a small hole to push the wire threw in the grommet and push it threw. than place your grommet back in. Make sure your power wire your ground wire and your signal wire are all threw the grommet. Than run them to were they need to go.

Red Wire goes to red wire behind dash on radio wiring

Black wire goes to a clean ground or piece of metal

Yellow goes to rear of head unit into rear camera input

Purple wire from head unit goes to orange wire in harness in truck.

bigaudiofanat 10-05-2009 10:01 AM

Also to the question about running a wire threw the center counsel do not worry about head you have carpet and tons of other wires there nothing is going to happen to it.

kenchan 10-05-2009 10:06 AM

thanks big. i appreciate that. ok, so im using the right hole then. :D yah, i was thinking about just yanking that grommet
out too.

yah, my license plate lamp is hanging right now on its wires. :D

yah, i zipped tied it to the factory harness on the carpeted
side so i think im good. the only other wire i need to
run through there is the actual video signal wire. :)

LOL good deal always make sure your in the right hole

kenchan 10-06-2009 11:24 PM

hey big- thanks again. i wired up the camera tonight. everything works great. :p

after pulling that grommet off i just used my long reach pliers and accessed the cord
from the top of the car. it was actually pretty easy to do. will post pict of the
camera location i used tomorrow. :)

bigaudiofanat 10-07-2009 06:48 AM

Good deal and good job man, nice to see it worked out for you.

kenchan 10-07-2009 12:36 PM

i used the pioneer universal camera and placed it near the center. there's just enough gap without any modifications or cutting. :)

crappy pict...but you get the idea. :)

kpyo2000 10-11-2009 04:05 AM

Hey nice thread AK370Z. I'm having trouble with my rear view camera. It works when I put my gear on reverse but does not work when I'm holding the NAV button. Although I did turn on the interruption button on. Do you know what the problem is?

bigaudiofanat 10-11-2009 06:33 AM

It could be that tyour video bypass has not been done. Or that that camera is plugged into the wrong input on the back. How is everything hooked up?

Sparhax 10-11-2009 02:10 PM

Thanks to Everyone here I was able to install a dnx6140 on my own!!

Here are a few pics, but nothing new for you guys, just know that this was my first audio install ever and everything worked without a hitch thanks to all the information provided on this website. Thank you thank you!
*I should note that I am a computer engineer and know my way around wires/electronics but I feel anyone could have done what I did.

My only complaint is that the mic doesn't sound so great during a call, It could be my phone or some settings though.

DJcuetip 10-11-2009 04:11 PM

that looks awesome man!! i will be getting the rear came soon as well..

btw, in the video where you start up that cd... is that my demo playing?:p

bsramzy 10-11-2009 09:44 PM

installer put my mic on the inside cabin light. actually sounds really good. just an idea

kpyo2000 10-12-2009 02:38 AM

my dvd works when I'm driving. That means I have bypass right? Maybe wrong input. I hate my installer.

it's okay with the heat when the lights are on? or do you not use the maplights (like me)? :)

i dont use the maplights at all (only when the doors open) so i cant comment on the heat. I can tell you all the people i have called say the quality is perfect from that location.

kenchan 10-12-2009 03:41 PM

so your car looks like kitchen florescent lighting with a dead fly inside? ;) jk

NIZMOZ 10-13-2009 07:47 AM

By any chance have you guys figured out how to get the dimmer to work on your Kenwoods? I hooked up the wires, but my Dimmer doesn't work when I turn the lights on. I haven't figured that one out yet.

bigaudiofanat 10-13-2009 09:23 AM

The wire that it is hooked up to will not be controlled by a dimmer dial but either by what time of day it is or if the headlights are on. Depending on what you select in the head unit that is what it will do. Also your video bypass is working fine if you can watch movies while driving. Just be lucky that they did that. Most shops will not do it because of being afraid of being sued.

NIZMOZ 10-13-2009 02:41 PM

What is the recommended setting in the unit to run it off of?

bigaudiofanat 10-13-2009 02:51 PM

It is not a matter of turning it on or off but weather you want the dimming to be controlled by the time of day or by weather the headlights are on. That is up to you the owner.

Sigur 10-17-2009 11:50 PM

Thanks for all of the pics and info. I ordered that same camera as you AK for my AVIC-D1. Its a ton cheaper than the pioneer one. Have the zenclosures door spacers and PAC-SWI and harnesses on the way also before I can get started really. Looking forward to getting to work on it.

Matt 10-22-2009 09:34 PM

Sorry if it's been asked, but did the microphone come with one of the other purchases? I don't see it on the list of things you bought.

bigaudiofanat 10-22-2009 09:44 PM

It is included with that head unit and most head units that have blue tooth built in. Or when you buy the external box for blue tooth it comes with one.

How much should one expect to pay to have a professional install this setup?

Should I assume he/she is familiar with some of the small things like preventing the resetting of your passenger airbag and windows and stuff, or do I print this out and give it to them? Should I look for someone that has worked on the 370z before?

What kind of timeframe should I expect for it to be done?

Thanks. I used to work on car audio in high school, and it was nothing like this. You ran power down one side of the car and RCA down the other...connect the sub to the amp and voila! It's so much more complex now...

bigaudiofanat 10-23-2009 09:49 PM

DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING with shops. Always ask question like have you worked on a 370z before? do you know about the air bags and warning lights? Do NOT be afraid to ask questions.

I talked to a shop installer today. He definitely knew his stuff. I asked about all the things mentioned in this thread, and he explained 9/10 of them perfectly.

He's gonna charge about $300 for installing the HU, speakers, bluetooth, backup cam, and the illuminated kick plates for me. To top it off, they just finished a 370z last week!

Where's the best place to install a small amp for the components? Is it even necessary? I don't plan on getting a sub. I'm thinking behind the driver seat maybe.

bigaudiofanat 10-25-2009 01:41 AM

Yes behind the seat would be best, also yes I would defiantly recommend amplifying a set of components if you are not going with a sub or even if you are getting a sub. You will get much more clarity out of them.

NIZMOZ 10-26-2009 07:34 AM

If anyone here is interested.

Selling my Kenwood DNX5140

Sigur 11-06-2009 08:06 PM

I ordered the same camera as you. Works pretty good like at night or overcast daytime, but anything in direct sunlight is like too bright or something and the screen shows up almost pure white. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the camera not adjusting or what, you have any problems in direct sunlight?

hmm no problem here. When you say direct sunlight, do you mean just normal daylight (at noon on a sunny day)? It seems fine. I'll take a video for you tomorrow if you want.

Sigur 11-10-2009 11:15 AM

Yea, like noon on a sunny day is pretty terrible. Like if I go under a bridge or in the shade somehow it's not bad. I'll try to post a pic of it.

bigaudiofanat 11-10-2009 03:01 PM

Hmm I have never seen that. You might have a bad camera.

teejnut 11-15-2009 07:22 PM

So I just installed my 6140. Does anyone know why my Audio Setup and AV Interface menu would be grayed out and have a lock symbol on it?

Also, trying to figure out why sub output isn't working...

bigaudiofanat 11-15-2009 07:27 PM

Probably because you did not do the parking brake bypass?

n/m i figured it out. should have read the manual. it has to do with the setup memory section where you can save and unlock/lock the settings. also figured out the sub output, weird that it has to be in standby.

and i did ground the parking brake wire (green).
