if I tap the red wire behind the radio, isn't that constant? and there fore my camera will suck power when the car is off too? Like a clock?

here is what I have so far, I hooked the purple to an orange wire on the left bundle (I saw two actually in there) and I grounded the camera ground to the chassis with a self tapping screw.

My question. The red wire coming from the camera on the right side of the car, it needs a power source. You are telling me to run the wire to the back of the radio and connect it to the red wire?

bigaudiofanat 08-30-2009 02:01 PM

The red is accessory only power when the car is on. Yellow is constant.

bigaudiofanat 08-30-2009 02:26 PM

Yes that is what I am telling you to do.

frost 08-30-2009 02:34 PM

I'd listen. Big knows his audio.

Thanks for all the help big, got it on and workin - even with Reverse interrupt, and manual turn on to watch cars chase me :P

I put my camera under the bumper instead of screw into the bumper. ALso I dremel'd off the brackets on the side, and used Body shop grade 3M double sided tape, and just stuck it on a tab on the under side.

bigaudiofanat 08-30-2009 05:12 PM

Looks good man glad it worked out for you. How is the view from the camera down there?

Equinox 08-30-2009 05:21 PM

Great actually, just like AK370Z's camera I have the wire overlay for distance. The middle Yellow line matches the distance and width of where I should line things up when I'm backing. When I turn it on driving forward it's like the thing is actually on the ground. Pretty Crazy - and I love when people pull on my ***, it's fisheyed and they look like they're trying to ram me.

bigaudiofanat 08-30-2009 05:24 PM

Good deal great car BTW! If you need anymore audio help just let me know

GREAT job. I'm glad the install went good and everything working properly. I'm not so sure about the location of the camera but Function > appearance. As long as it works and you're happy, that's all it matters.

Equinox 08-31-2009 11:59 AM

You and your JDM Camera of doom. Pshh.

bigaudiofanat 08-31-2009 12:06 PM

Shunya 08-31-2009 06:46 PM

Woah you can keep the camera on even when Driving :D

hey AK & big. I didn't see an answer in the thread about this (sorry if I overlooked it). I just picked up the 6140 as well, like many others who have followed your set up

Anyway, before i start taking apart the inside, I wanted to see if you ran the gps antenna wire behind / between the dash and the front windshield? Or is it just along the crevice up the side by the door? Trying to figure out if I'll have to take off the whole dash to get it up there / dremmel some space for it.

Same question about your microphone wire, did you pull off the piller cover and stick it back there, or is it just tucked in to the crevice to go down and under the steering wheel area?

bigaudiofanat 08-31-2009 08:30 PM

pull your weather stripping back from the side that runs from the dash and the door run it threw there. and use a butter knife wrapped with tape and push the wire down in the crevice where the tweeter is and all but start from where the antenna is mounted and work down. Than after getting it to the edge where the glove box is look underneath and run it threw the loops down there and you can zip tie as well. Than run it the rest of the way to your head unit.

The wire for the mic same thing use a butter knife with tape and push it into the crease where the head liner and the a pillar meet than run it down to where the weather stripping is pull that back run it behind there and same for that all the way to the head unit.

I think my next install I am going to go step by step lol.

jknieper 08-31-2009 09:42 PM

Awesome, thanks for the info! Using yalls pictures and notes I feel it should go pretty smoothly. Thanks for all the time and help you've given!

Yes. On DNX6140, if you press and hold NAV button, it'll permanently display rear cam regardless of the gear you're in. To disable, simply press any button. No modification needed. This is one of the cool features of Kenwood DNX series. Living in crowded East Coast, I often find myself in small parking lot ( or parallel parking space) where I have to go back and forth multiple times. Keeping the camera "ON" permanently eliminates constant switching from the reverse gear.

I scratched up the plastics around my shifters pretty good doing this install... any ideas on making it look better?

bigaudiofanat 09-09-2009 10:52 AM

No that does happen and I should of warned you put something under the shifter ring before laying it down. Your best bet is to buy a new piece.

Equinox 09-09-2009 10:55 AM

the silver peice can come off seperate, and you can sand it with high grit sandpaper - buy some silver metallic auto paint at a local auto parts store, spray it up, and put it back on!

kenchan 09-09-2009 02:57 PM

get some painter's tape blue and mask off the area that are prone to scratching (including your LCD..use sticky side out dont tape directly onto the screen). that's wat i usually do for interior installs. :p

also a good thing to have a towel handy when you need to place the head unit against your shifter, etc. i didn't remove my shifter ring when i did my install.

btw, thanks for all the picts on this thread. it really helped me out on the install. :D i just wanted to contribute something back. lol

bigaudiofanat 09-09-2009 04:05 PM

Good idea with the painters tap I just use a cloth. Also ya most of use did not remove the ring all the way.

AK370Z 09-24-2009 09:26 PM

I have been getting a lot pm and email about where I bought the camera from (since the link in post 1 is dead).

I bought the back up cam from Ebay. It ships from Asia. I don't know how long it usually takes but for me, it only took 5 days to get here. Maybe I was lucky.

This is the EXACT model I have:

Which camera is that Equinox? Is that the one that can be tilted that AK posted the link for?If it is that's the same one I just ordered.I just wondered how big it was I was hoping to be able to mount it centered above my plate but not sure. Also if that is the one I speak of does it have the colored guidance lines like the one AK has?

bigaudiofanat 10-03-2009 02:17 PM

You can not put a camera there because of the truck release is there. To the left or to the right would be the best bet.

Sorry I should have said,I don't drive a Z,wish I did, it should work there on my car, only thing I have to worry about is if it hangs down too low.

bigaudiofanat 10-03-2009 03:46 PM

Okay got ya.

kenchan 10-05-2009 07:02 AM

big- on the video cord from the rear camera, did you run the cord through the center console?

Any heat related concerns running the wire through there? I'm using a larger gauge for the reverse signal wire on purpose...but I'm thinking I should run the video cord through plastic wrapping...(?)
Overkill?

bigaudiofanat 10-05-2009 08:16 AM

It would be over kill there is not going to be much of any heat coming from the counsel more heat from outside in the summer heat than there.

cool. im going to check the service manual to see where exactly the exhaust runs below the console. some cars have it run right below so heat builds up in that area.

the factory harness is wrapped in a hard plastic shell so
was wondering.
