Sigur,
just so you know, up until this past weekend I've been testing the camera at night afterwork. When I finally used it in the day, I had the same problem. The screen was almost pure white. At first I thought maybe my video connect had come up done, but when I finally got to my desination, it was at night and the video worked again. I then tried it going from a garage to the outside like and the picture started out fine and then when snow white (over exposed) when I got in the sun. Have you discussed this issue with the seller?

I just thought you'd like to know you're not the only one having the snow white issue.

I'm hoping the new camera works or maybe I can just buy AKs off him!!!:rofl2:

:bowrofl: Maybe I should sell it for twice the price!

yeah, I have no issues in sun. Maybe I got the last best one?

Btw, this camera is so helpful especially those of us that lives in congested east coast (or maybe busy west coast or FL). Parallel parking in tight street space is a breeze with this cam.

Sigur 01-04-2010 09:25 AM

I never did contact the seller about it. I figured it was one of those you get what you pay for kind of things. It is very useful for parking and backing with the lines on there as long as it's not sunny.

bigaudiofanat 01-04-2010 01:35 PM

AK I had no problems with the camera when in California in the sun either.

mototrmpt 01-16-2010 11:30 PM

Well I got a replacement camera last week and installed it today. The good news is that the image is right side up, but like my previous over exposure problem, the replacement camera also whites out in the sun light. I also don't see the lines when the lighting is only from a garage. Do the lines show up automatically, or is there a setting on the HU I need to hit?

I also picked up an IPOD adapter cable from ebay and it doesn't seem to work with my Ipod. It's a classic model, but I thought the version was recent enough to work.

Today I also added infinity component Kappa speakers to the doors, a rockford punch 450.4 amp and a rockford P3L-s10 enclosed subwoofer. The car was in pieces all over and wires were going everywhere. I know the enclosed subwoofer isn't ideal, but I was only looking for only a little more bass and nothing that blow out the windows. Due to my wife insisting I don't take any trunk space, I just placed the subwoofer on the shelf just behind the driver's seat. My initial take it that it's enough bass for me.

One frustrating part is that now when I use my bluetooth, I can't hear the caller. The caller can hear me, but I can't hear them. Anyone else have this problem? [Never mind, I figured out I hit a button on the HU that cut off the speakers while on the cell phone.] Still figuring out the HU. It's a nice unit, but not the easiest to figure out.

In regards to your camera, have you ever thought of putting some window tint on it to see if it helps get rid of your "white out". If you want some, let me know. I've got a roll that I bought that is just sitting around. I can mail you some if you want to give it a try.

Tree,
let me see if the ebay seller has a suggestion for me. If he doesn't have a reasonable response, I'll take you up on the window tint. Nice suggestion.

Ok so I send pictures from the new camera to the seller. Good one in the garage, white one outside, OK one at twilight (almost dark outside). His reply is:
Dear my friend,
I just check the email.
The image is good, the camera haven't bad.
Because the camera is CMOS, the image not very good than CCD camera, hope you can understand.:-)
Any questions Please contact me.
Best regards
Melody
This just isn't right. It gives me a white screen 90% of the time I want to use it. I know this camera is bad. This will be the first time I leave negative feedback on ebay. Very disappointed. I'm glad the seller tried to work with me, but ultimately I didn't get a product that worked. The attached photo was taken during the daytime when the So. Cal. rain storms was passing overhead. The daylight was very muted. In normal sunlight, it's totally white.

I had the same exact problem in my Z also. I got the same camera as most people bought it on Ebay from the link in first thread.. I guess you get what you pay for.... Its barely even sunny here in East Coast, just overcast, clear sky and the screen is white out during the day. Seem to be better at night tho. I dont think the cold weather has anything to do with this..

Anyone know a good replacement back up camera that is plug-and-play? I just want to do a straight up swap instead of removing all the old wires.

TreeSemdyZee sent me some 20% window tint. Since I don't have access to my Z for a few of weeks, I've been experimenting at home with the original camera that viewed everything upside down. I've found that if I put 3 layers of 20% tint over the lens, I get a decent picture in bright sunlight. In interior light, the image is pretty grainy. With 2 layers the image is still too bright, although you can make out objects. at 4 layers, you can see well in the bright light, but any non-bright area are too dark.

I would appreciate it if you contact the ebay seller, so at least they know I'm not the only one who thinks his product is defective. If enough folks complain, he may actually figure out he has a manufacturing problem.

thanks for the tip. I'll grab some cheap DIY window tint film at Autozone and see if it will help with the over exposure problem. Will post back here with updates later.

Here's another suggestion...after I got the tint from Tree, I checked with the clear bra installer I used and asked him about 5% tint. He suggested I try 20% clear bra material since it's not quite as sticky and streatches better. He gave me a fair chunk of it for free.

I didn't get any 5% stuff and I think the window tint cuts the glare better. I have a couple of pieces ready to go once I get back to my Z. The bottom layer is clear bra, next layer is window tint, and then another layer of clear bra.

Good luck.

Yeah sorry, I was asking you. Because my base model speakers are HORRIBLE. After you install this nav unit, is the sound better? Did you do any mods to the sound system or just plain stock?

Caldaga 03-04-2010 03:58 PM

I've read through this a few times, I am having a similar install sometime in the next week or so depending on when the pieces get in. I ordered the following online already:

Kenwood DNX6140
Antenna Adapter
Wiring Harness
Pioneer Backup Camera

Am I missing anything? I do not need the sirius radio or the ipod adapter. I would like the piece needed to make my steering wheel controls work, can someone give me a link to the exact piece I need? Thank you for any help.

xiven 03-04-2010 04:04 PM

i hear the pac steering wheel control isn't all that great

does anyone else make a control that works better?

Caldaga 03-04-2010 04:18 PM

If there is a different control that works better I would love to hear about it. I really love the Z cars (this is my second one), and I would like everything to be perfect or as good as it can be.

xiven 03-04-2010 04:22 PM

how much did u pay for the pioneer cam? i ordered the one AK got for $30

Caldaga 03-04-2010 06:57 PM

I found the cam on Amazon for $292.00. I have a pretty large budget to work with so rather than go for the 30$ cam that a few people have been seeing issues with (issues which would basically make the cam useless for me), I went with an expensive name brand cam that I'm sure Pioneer will stand behind.

Caldaga 03-04-2010 07:01 PM

I am also planning on putting in a couple of Rockford Fosgate 10" Subs, probably the P3s and a JL Audio 750 amp, the speakers are pretty thin and the amp is small so hopefully it won't be an issue.

bigaudiofanat 03-04-2010 09:41 PM

For the price I would go with the one AK used I have installed it on quite a few z's and they all work well probably better than the pioneer one.

stiso 03-04-2010 10:37 PM

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, first off thanks to big Matt for posting this install, I used it to install a DNX7140, works great.....Anyways I bought the same 30$ camera like everyone else from seasonsun200 on ebay, I installed the head unit, everything worked great Exept the backup camera. I was losing my mind triple checking all the connections, grounding wires etc. Checked the current and sure enough the camera was dead/NO PICTURE....emailed and got another camera all the way from fu$#ing Hong kong which gave a sh#ty picture and did the white out thing. Anyways all of you trying to save a buck may want to learn from my mistake playing russion roulette with these cheap cameras. I had to bite the bullet and ended up with the kenwood reverse camera from crutchfield, no problems day or night.......

Caldaga 03-05-2010 01:44 PM

This is really the way I feel about it also. It may be that you have had a bit of luck Matt, it may also be that you are doing something differently than the other people and thats why the ones you install work fine. However, I would rather put out a little money and know I am getting a quality product from a large name company that I trust.

Any ideas on if there is a different control than the PAC to make the steering wheel controls work? If not which PAC specifically do I need?

Not sure if there is another option, but the PAC model depends on your HU brand.

Kenwood would be the SWI-JACK.

You didn't order directly did you? They're pricey. Here's what I found on Amazon.

I am confused, why wouldn't this setup work with the Touring model? Am I missing something obvious here?

The touring has the bose system "I believe" so you would have to take everything out and start over. In that cae you could do something similar

Hey guys,

I have been seeing a lot of posts (and pms) asking me if I have any problem with my camera or does my camera white out in bright day light. I honestly have to say, I have zero issue! Morning, noon, afternoon or night, I have no issues with my camera. It does a pretty good job showing me the area as I'm backing up. So, I shot a video for you guys to see. Take a look:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJUgo3ZJIh4

If I remember correctly, I paid almost $40 (or $45) for my unit. Could it be possible that the seller stopped selling the expansive units? I think all the ones I see listed now are priced $26-30. Also, could it be that your mounting angle is not correct? It's more pointed toward the sky?

I'm very sorry if I have caused anyone any trouble to those who bought it and had a hard time with it. At this point, feel free to use ANY back up camera as you like.

Cool Feature

So, today I was sitting in a drive thru (bank) and was pretty bored. So I grabbed my iphone and wanted to watch some YouTube videos. As I was playing the videos on YouTube, I saw this small icon on the right hand side on my iphone. Once I pressed it, I was able to hear the audio on the speakers. Pretty cool feature

http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...m/DSC03181.jpg

I'm almost coming up on my one year anniversary of this unit on the Z. I must say, the built in GPS is very easy to use. Yesterday I took a 400 mile road trip (back and forth). At one point, I had to take an EXIT which had 3 different exit in it! Basically, as soon as you take the exit, you must keep all the way to right and take another exit. Once you do that, right away you must stay left, and take another exit. Thanks to GPS's quick voice guide, I was able to take it without any issues.

bigaudiofanat 03-09-2010 10:33 PM

Time to upgrade those speakers AK.

kpyo2000 03-10-2010 12:37 AM

bigaudiofanat, I'm not getting any radio station....what should I do?

bigaudiofanat 03-10-2010 06:33 AM

Check that your blue wire is connected to the blue wire of your new wiring harness of your radio. Make sure it is not wired to the blue wire on the factory harness.
