Kenwood DNX7140 Navigation receiver at Crutchfield.com

I have a Sport, Touring, Automatic, in Brilliant Silver. The Bose was the first issue. The face trim plate is not double din ready. Seems there are no after market trim kits for the 370 yet. (Checked everywhere) The solution was Nissan's trim plate for the Base Audio (Non Touring, Non Nav) Just get one from Nissan, right? So thats what I did... For $174.11, part #68262, and thats wholesale! Thanks to Kevin in the Parts Dept. at Pinnacle Nissan in Scottsdale, AZ. I did not have to pay full boat for the part. List for it was $265.81. It should be here in 2 to 3 days. That hurt!

Gettin' the stuff togeather...

Kenwood will not warranty the 7140 unless you get it from an "Authorized Dealer" You can save 1 or 2 hundred bucks today, if you buy from an Un-Authorized dealer on the internet. But here in the Arizona heat....I wanted it covered by Kenwood for at least the first year. Bottom line, today if you WANT it from an Authorized Dealer.... its $1499.99! After seeing a 7140 pair with my iPhone 3G I was toast! Now for the add ons.

XM Radio adapter w/ XM Mini tuner. $130.00

iPod / Video Cable $29.99

Rearview Camera $200.00

Nissan ANT. Adapter $15.99

Nissan Steering Control Adapter $94.99

Install $483.99

Hopefully it will be installed on Monday. I will post some pics when its DONE ;-) I'll let you married guys total it up and tell me I'm crazy... But it is one fine unit!! Right honey?
Hi,
Whats the make and model of the Steering wheel control adapter - is it PAC? And how is the response time using it? Finally did you also by a wiring harness, or did the pros take care of that issue?
p.s.
Doing a similar mod as you did, but with the dnx-5120 on the 370 - I'm changing everything but the stock tweeters - should I change those too (or will it matter much? ) I hope you can answer these questions, as your mod is the most awesome and you are quite knowledgeable on the subject now.

Thanks

The part is PAC-SWI-JACK.

This thread (PAC Steering Wheel Control Poll) is an attempt to discuss performance of it.

Question regarding DIY for anybody who has, or would DIY: do I solder or crimp the wires if installing a HU (dnx5120) and speakers into a 370Z?

you'll be fine with crimping the wires. Just make sure your crimps are solid (give a little tug on them after each crimp. I've installed several radios using crimp connectors and as long as you make solid connections you should be fine.

I do not favor crimp connectors when possible. They work fine just I put more trust in solder and heat shrink. But you can use crimp connectors. They will work fine.

I've been thinking of installing a new H/U into my car as well, and my stock car has a similar set-up like yours. (Non-Nav with Bose) I was just wondering if you have any particular reasons that you didn't use the DNX9140 system?

And currently, Crutchfield is adding a free back-up cam to the expensive orders. Would you recommend the back-up cam you used, or the Boyo Rear-View, which is free? I've read reviews that the Boyo chrome flakes and rust, so does your cam do the same?

If anyone has any suggestions on good H/Us, please let me know. I would like one that basically has everything. Speakers and Amps will have to wait another day though.

hey guys..just need some info on this topic as i have searching different threads and the information conflicts....

some people are saying its very hard to hook up an after market head unit with Bose system? is it true.

and second do you have to buy a separate GPS system along with the headunit as im in dubai and this wont work here so want to buy accordingly.

Third and last whats the size of our door speakers and tweets

YES it is hard. No the gps is built into most of todays head units. 6.5's "6x9's in bose" and tweeters are 1 inch

Subwoofer Upgrade to Bose Touring Stereo
Advice wanted: Yanking the OEM Bose unit for something better?
Bose w/Nav options

I dont know to me without the nav up top, putting a screen with no controls around it kinda makes the whole area look like its missing something. Im sure the unit is nice but just looks more plain now. Now if the nav was there up top then I think it would blend in better, but then you wouldnt need to get the new HU then. Did you change out speakers too? Did the new HU make any difference in the sound quality?

It all depends, like I said you can rip it all out and yes you will have to change the speakers. You can keep the head unit and amp and use the jl and req to install new amps and install new speakers. What are you asking towards? A new head unit will make a difference in the base model but a new head unit can not be added in the bose model without putting new speakers in.

Mostly just curious if he changed it all out or just the HU and amps. Ive got the new amp and sub in mine and it sounds good but I didnt get the re q yet. I still cant turn it half way up or it over powers the rest of the stereo. Will adding the re q change the sound or just allow more volume that the Bose was blocking?

Well by putting a req in you need a new amp and a new sub. The req just cleans the signal for a new amp to take in. You would probably be more happy to get a JL clean sweep and add a new amp and new speakers.
