No the full kit does not require soldering
  • No soldering
  • No cutting of any wires
  • No drilling
All you need is a Phillips screwdriver and a plastic trim tool helps.

If you go for the kit without a camera then I provide a spare power connector that could be used to power your camera. You could solder or use wiretaps or power the camera from elsewhere.

where does one get a plastic trim tool?

djpathfinder 11-11-2010 09:15 PM

Griot's Garage sells a kit with various sizes. Your local automotive supply stores might carry them too. I'm sure you can find these online as well, such as at northerntool.com Not expensive at all.

Amazon. They are basically made of plastic that is softer than the trim. The ones I have are
BDLHOME Gadget Store - Car

Add me to the 2010 list. Kit + camera.

I assume the factory location for the camera on a roadster is above the license plate. Has anyone done this yet?

Thanks,

Marc

This is a good question. Jeff, is the roadster install going to be any different?

The roadster isn't going to be different but the pictures in the instructions are not of the roadster. There is a link earlier in this thread from axeman71 of a DIY install and the only part that could be a little different is routing the wire from cabin to trunk.

Is there a roadster owner prepared to be first and take a few additional pictures or a roadster owner in NJ who I could install with and take a few pictures as we go?

tsolin01 11-12-2010 09:00 AM

This is gonna be a nice early Christmas gift hehe

Jeffblue 11-12-2010 09:12 AM

i can tell you all that this will really help your every day driving. even if you are good at using the mirrors to judge distance and park, i am able to confidently back up while parallel parking to get very close to the car behind me. in the past i've bailed on many spots becase i was scared i'd back into the car. yesterday, while parallel parking, i backed up without looking at the camera, thinking 'hmm that looks pretty close' then i look down at the camera display, i had like 4 feet more room. :)

If I lived close, I would definitely meet up with you, but I'm a midwesterner. Thanks for all of your help bd. Can't wait to do this (if I ever get my car back, lol).

bdl99, I haven't worked on a car for better then 30 years and to be first may spell trouble however if no other roadster owner volunteer's I'd be happy to give it a shot.

Added you to the list and you should have it now.

Chris`I 11-14-2010 09:16 AM

Is this GB closed? Would you post to the UK? :D

I have a 2010 and would be after the harness and cam. Confirmed the settings work on my UK car just a minute ago, can get into diag screen and it turns blue in reverse when set with cam "on".

Group buy is still open and I will send you a PM. Shipping to the UK will cost more and a good chance you will hit with some customs charges. I have shipped several kits to UK GT-R owners and some have sourced the camera locally to save on shipping and customs. But I am happy to send if you wish.

Chris`I 11-14-2010 03:17 PM

Thanks for the PM Brian, I'll PM ya back

Here is the list of people who expressed interest in the 2009 nav tool group buy. I pmed all of you the same message asking for your email address. So far, only the people have been crossed out have responded. If your name is not crossed out, please message me as soon as possible. This group buy is being held up b/c it can't move forward until i have 15 responses. (asmar i just sent you the message tonight so this doesn't really apply to you in terms of taking while to respond)

Anymore movement on the 2009 group buy?

i got 2 more responses over the past few days, i will update the list when i get home from work. i apologize to all you guys who were ready to go, but unfortunately i can't get anything moving until 15 people respond :shakes head: i could try and talk to them once we get 10, but 8 out of 16+ initial respondents is dissappointing.

I would be interested. 2010 Roadster

xTIMMYxCOREx 11-16-2010 04:19 PM

Anyone know an installer around Massachusetts who will put this in for me?

Also what is the side view camera that is mentioned in the Settings Diagnostics screen?

I dont know of any installers around there, but there is a DIY included with the kit, its not very difficult, i did it with bdl99 on my car.

as far as this kit is concerned, its only for the rear view camera.

xTIMMYxCOREx 11-17-2010 10:31 AM

Ok a friend of mine thinks we can install it ourselves, he did a lot of work on his 350Z and is pretty good with that stuff.

dixon cider 11-17-2010 08:25 PM
