Default Who's got an amplified sub? (like a bazooka, basslink, etc)

What did you get? Where did you mount it? And how is it working out for you?

I think I am going this route with my stereo.. After years of higher end equipment, custom fiberglass enclosures, and tons of power - I have come to a single conclusion: I am not an audiophile.

The increased sound quality is probably not worth the cost of admission (in both weight and cash) for me. What is important to me? A little extra volume for when the windows are open. I figure I can do that with an amp'ed sub to take the low frequency load off the door speakers. May or may not get a small amp for the doors.

So.... who's got one of these preloaded gizmos?

I've played with a lot of these guys and the best ones I've come across are the Infinity Basslink, JBL Basspro, and the Rockford Fosgate P300-10. The Rockford was probably my favorite out of the three.

That Rockford looks sweet and the price is right! I was hoping to find something that might fit nicely (and not look completely out of place) on the parcel shelf... but this might be too big. I'll definitely be measuring as soon as I get home!

I wish I could buy that 12V 300w class D plate amp from them... Then I could use an 8" driver and make a small powered enclosure to fit on the shelf. I suppose I could still do the same with an external amp but if I continue down that path, I will just end up with a big ported box like I had originally planned for this car.

I have the Rockford Fosgate P300-12, left over from my previous car when i sold it.

I installed it by getting all the power into the trunk which wasn't too bad, then using a line converter and spliced into the OEM Sub wires, not sure if that's how i'm supposed to do it but it works.

I attached it by using velcro strips on the bottom of it, and putting the other velcro side on a heavy rubber mat i got from costco. It's very stable and never moves even with hard cornering. I also put a a "rope" around the whole sub and attached it to the bolt attachment next to the spare just incase.

Rockfordfosgate R750-1D Mono amplifier
JL 13TW5-3 600W Sub with Wicked CAS box & rear trunk mat.

Not the most volume of bass setup, but didn't lose trunk space or spare.

That looks like a good option... and I know this probably sounds silly... but it's kind of fugly.

I've narrowed my requirements to something inexpensive, non-fugly, makes some kind of auditory impact, and that can fit on the parcel shelf behind the driver as I see that as an almost wholly useless space.

There are a couple of cheap-o brand units that have good reviews on Amazon that I might try since I'd be able to return them if I discovered they fit in the "you get what you pay for" category. The previous owner of my beater pickup truck installed a BOSS unit (this one) and I am continually surprised at how non-awful it actually is... so I figure it's worth a try. Trying to decipher the power on these things is annoyingly difficult though... The unit on my truck is "300w RMS" but based on the fuses its probably more like 200w RMS... There is a newer model that claims 400w RMS.....but the fuses are the exact same size. Go figure.

Anyhow.. I am looking at a few...
https://www.amazon.com/BASS1400-1400...+amplified+sub
https://www.amazon.com/LOPRO8-600-wa...+amplified+sub
https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-...+amplified+sub

The planet audio unit even has a version with an additional 2-channel amp for the fronts.

That is in the running... but being held back by the price tag. At $250 I would consider building another custom box and getting a small monoblock amp. I'm still thinking of going with one of the cheap knockoff options and then returning it if I hate it. If the JBL was $150 I would be all over it.

I am also waffling on just going back to the original plan which involves an RE SCX 10" sub and JBL-GTO-3EZ amp already sitting in my garage. Even if I use lightweight materials for the enclosure, I am still looking at about 40-50 lbs whereas the cheap all-in-ones are 10-15 lb.

I am indecisiveness in the flesh.

Stay away from all three of them. All are cheap low level equipment. Basically you'd be better off putting that money to a higher end set of speakers sense that would give you better bass then those.

The Universe agrees with you. On my way home from work today, the BOSS unit in my pickup died. LOL.

I am going to go with the JBL amp and RE sub I already have. Thanks for the advice guys!

I wired the 10" amplified Bazooka to the Bose amp high level wires. The low level wires sounded muddy.
It sits between the brace bar and the rear strut towers.
Even with the gain up, I'm not happy. It sounded much better in the trunk of my old Civic.
Maybe because of using the high level wires, maybe because of the location.
But I cant move it around until I get longer wires...

Thanks guys! I am going to go with a traditional sub setup... hoping to explore some options that will cut down on overall weight though.
