I'm on it! Some of us have to learn the hard way! Don't get me wrong, I do have gratitude for the advice of others on here, just was thinking I could save a few $$.

Put the stock speaker back in, seems like I have a blown right channel in the stock unit so it's going to have to go!

Pioneer seems to be a good choice out there for being a great product with great sound and plenty of features for not a whole lot of cash. Kenwood seems to be pretty decent as well. Then of course, you have Alpine, but then the price starts going up, and not for a whole lot of improvement either. Hence exactly why I went with the Pioneer.

So get a new head unit, then throw the new speakers back in, play around with the DSP settings on the head unit, and be happy... Until you realize you want more power and a sub.

Pioneer is the way to go for budget system I think... since those units allow you to configure the ~20w x 4 internal amp for front mid/high instead of Front/Rear full.. More usable power for our cars if you aren't planning to amp the front stage or add rear speakers.

Oh! Had no idea on this! Good call.

I'm leaning on this one, only $220!

What are the compatibility repurcusions, if any, to changing the head unit and still using the steering controls I have had not so good luck in the past with other vehicles with this regard

You need to fit a universal steering wheel control adapter. Most popular here ist he Axxess ASWC-1. I have one in my car and it works great.

There are some sticky threads and videos on setting it up in this subforum.

THANKS for this Good Idea

I have 2010 Z Sport Roadster w/ Bose HU & stock door spkrs
Couple questions before ordering these speakers w/ adapters

What about the Bose Ohms being "unusual" (4 Ohms??) vs 8?
Any "Best Link" for DYI door speaker installation you advise?

Looking Forward To More Good Advice !!!
