TSB for oil consumption on the VQ37VHR.

You think they can try to void warranty because the car has bolt on mods? Originally Posted by ZForce Ouch...yes indeed that is a lot of oil consumption. I would

I would def get it into the dealer and at least have it reported on a service order that "customer states engine is consuming excessive amount of oil between oil changes". It's important to get documented on your file even if they do not have a TSB yet for the 370Z. It MAY help if you ever have to Lemon Law the car, although I believe Cali Law is 18k miles to have the issue reported to manufacture. Either way they would pro rate the mileage on the car if it ever comes down to a buy back.

I would also ask the dealer to start an oil consumption test on the car and if they look at you funny....then run fast to another dealer. You should be checking your oil weekly and when it’s cold (sat over night). The dipstick High / Low hash marks are 24mm between the high mark (hole) and the low mark (hole). And the mm between the high and low marks is 24mm which equals to 1 quart.

If this issue starts to raise its ugly head on the 370Z then a new thread should be opened, because it will get long. Just look at my350z thread, it's at 219 pages. RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion - MY350Z.COM Forums

I'm not sure this is true. I checked my oil level again today and, after the car sat for about 5 hours, it was at about 13-14mm below H (3400 miles, no oil change yet). I added exactly one quart and that brought the oil level EXACTLY to the H dot.

assuming I am reading the 370z tsb correctly, for
3001-3500 miles, >=22mm is "no good", <22mm is good; therefore I believe you're ok.

Wow... VHR has OC issue, too?

I guess only VQ engine that didn't have any OC issue was HR then.

Isn't the HR the RevUp?

Nope, RevUp was the 05 Anniv MT and 06 MT engines. HR came after the Revup on the 07 & 08 models.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I guess I am going to have to start seriously eyeballing my oil levels. This is not looking like it will be any fun at all. Looks like I may have to hold on to my S13 after all. I was planning on selling it and going all in on the Z. Guess it is always good to have a backup plan.

I saw an 05 VQDE in the dealer a few months back getting an engine swap due to OC, so they were not excluded from the ugly OC head. It was also under warranty for the engine swap.

Yup... All year DE motors had OC issue. None so far has been reported for the HR motors (07-08 Z and G sedans).

And I haven't really heard any OC issue on the 08+ G37s either... maybe it's a 370Z isolated issue? Does anyone have the full TSB document including the solution? I'd like to see what's all involved in resolving this issue.
