Default Changing tires onto rims

Hey all,

I've been thinking about getting all season tires for the coming up winter. There was a snow storm last year and I had hell driving with these performance tires. I saw cars such as the corolla moving normally in the snow while I was struggling the entire way to work.

I'm thinking about buying these all season tires. Does anyone know how much the shop will charge for putting these tires on and taking the OEM one off?

Most shops will charge anywhere from $75-$150 for mount & balance.

FWIW, all seasons generally still suck in the snow on RWD. If you want real snow performance you need to look at dedicated winter/snow tires.

If you are set on all seasons, though, the only one with a worthwhile snow rating are the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Everything else you will still be slipping and sliding, albeit less than with your summers.

yah, just get a used set of wheels, wat not and get snow tires. allseason tires dont do crap in the snow for RWD. plus you risk mounting marks on your factory sport wheels if you have them.

checkout tirerack.com talk to x294 alex. he can help you out on a winter set including cheezo wheels they offer or one of the nicer ones.

Leave it to ken to talk about a wheel of cheese in a tire thread.

Would you drive with winter tires for the entire winter season even though it doesn't snow?

Yeah, you can leave them on all winter. They don't grip as well all-seasons or summer tires on dry pavement, but they work fine as long as you don't drive too aggressive.

Like others have said, having a dedicated winter set is the best way to go.
