will spare tire fit with aftermarket lug nuts?

I was wondering whether spare tire fit with aftermarket lug nuts or not. If not, I guess I have no reason to carry it with me anymore or should I

or should I rather leave 5 stock lug nuts in the car instead?

leave 5 stock lug nuts in the car so when you do need to use the spare? You won't find out you're screwed.

You need to keep stock lugs. Aftermarket lugs are conical, spare requires shank lugs (same as stock)

Any shank(flat washer) style lugs with the right threading will.

wow, this is a great point that I never thought of. I'm sure most people with aftermarket wheels haven't either. Should be a sticky! plus rep for the OP, even though he was just asking the ?

I wouldn't know where to put the flat after the swap! If there is a passenger in the seat, then the hatch has limited space to safely carry a rear sports tire! I'd hate to blow a hatch glass trying to stuff that puppy in there!...

You should never be putting a spare on the rear.

And just slide the divider and you could fit one if you wanted

It does fit. I had a 19" sport rim (with tire, of course) in my rear hatch. You have to have it all the way forward though.

i always keep stock OEM lugs (4 or 5pcs depending on the car) in the trunk for the spare.

yeah also make sure you have the right size socket/wrench to get the aftermarket lugs off as well. Carrying the extra lugs won't do you any good if you can't get the current ones off.

I don't know, thought all this seemed pretty obvious but then again what you and I consider common sense can be completely different.
