Most of the time the change in temperature has to be significant and the car not been driven in a while for this to happen.

I'm pretty sure the spare has a TPMS sensor; at least the last three cars I've owned had them, including my son's Tacoma. It would be worth a quick check.

Ambient temp can drive you crazy as well.
