What do you think about the Weds SA70

I'm thinking 18X9 Front 18X10 Rear. These wheels are among the lightest available in these sizes. I'm not looking for anything bigger than an 18 and I don't need a

Default What do you think about the Weds SA70

I'm thinking 18X9 Front 18X10 Rear. These wheels are among the lightest available in these sizes. I'm not looking for anything bigger than an 18 and I don't need a 12 inch width (tires are waaaayyy too expensive above about a 285). As far as performance goes these wheels are great.

We just started selling WEDS this month. They have always intrigued me as an alternative to the overpopulated Volks and Works. I like the SA67Rs though



By the way, here is a shot I took today of the DDM 370Z on 18s and they are too small in my opinion. They would look better when the car is lowered, but I still think they will look a bit small. Thats just my opinion though.

Hi Joey - don't get 18's, they're too small for the car. 19's are minimum size, imo.

I'd like to know what 20's ride like, because if the ride is OK I think 20's look good in the Z's wheel arches.

It's not about looks, it's about form following function. 18's perform better than 19's and 19's better than 20's. It's all about keeping as much of the weight of the wheel as close to the center of rotation as possible. As well as lowering the unsprung weight of the car. Also, In order to run a bigger rim, like a 20, and maintain your stock overall wheel height (tire OD) you would have to lower the aspect ratio of the tire, which means less sidewall. Less sidewall translates to a worse ride and in many cases and unpredictable loss of traction at high lateral loads. Personally an 18' is the best compromise of style, weight, performance, tire availability, and tire cost. Tire cost will be very important as with most cars I drive they won't make it much past 10K miles. I won't even consider a wheel if it's not under 19.5 LBS. That weight narrows the field considerably.

A good example is my old IS300, before I turboed it. I had HEAVY 19's on it (around 31lbs + tires). The 19's over the stock 18's raised my 0-60 by almost 2 full seconds. Later on down the line I replaced them with light weight Axis Reverbs. I ran Reverbs on my Mazdaspeed 6 too. They were a great rim but I just can't see buying the same wheel for three different cars.

And just a little footnote. I ran Axis Millano 19's on my 350Z and I was pleased with them. But knowing what I know now I would have gone with an 18 if I had it to do over again.

Personally I like the way the 18's look because, as I said, I'm a performance first kind of guy. That Z looks like it's headed for some track time. A 1'-1.5" drop wouldn't hurt though. Another thing worth noting: a rim with any kind of lip will appear much smaller than it actually is. If you choose a rim with spokes that go all the way to the tire bead they will look bigger.

I do like the SA67r. Wheelweights.net doesn't have there weight listed though. Do you know it? In a 18X9 F 18X10 Rear?

Good outlook! I guess I thought you were talking about street driving only. 18s are almost necessary for the track because there just aren't that many good R-Compound tires that come in 19". There are some, but I like a variety .

I don't have the wheel weights for the SA67R, but I will try and find out Monday.

Sweet. Thanks. I'm really interested in these wheels. Wouldn't hurt to check on fittment for a 370Z at the same time. Although my Z may never see any real track time the weight difference will be fully appreciated on a daily basis. I'm not afraid of being flamed for wheels that look small. All things being equal I'll outrun a Z with 19's or 20's.

For the track those rims on the silver 370z are perfect DD. For the street though you must take others sensitivities into account. It would behoove the civilized Z driver to don the appropriate size rims when milling about amoungst societies sophisticated hoods, burbs and cities. 19's or 20's would be most appropriate wheel attire for such occasions

I'll make the arguement that in societys sophisticated (over populated) areas the roads are poorly maintained and a much better environment for 18's with more tire to absorb pot holes and the like.

Egads. You drive on 18's. How uncouth. On track, away from sensitive or impressionable young minds 18's are sublime.
