Default This is interesting...

Got the new Firehawks installed yesterday. First thing I noticed is there seems to be much more sidewall on the new set.

Second thing I noticed is there seems to be more of a “curb guard”. They actually stick out past the rims now.

Third thing I noticed was they were quieter and were much more comfortable over bumps.

So far so good...

Fourth thing I noticed is that the steering was WAY light. Like they were over inflated. I put my cheap digital gauge on them and it reads 50 psi!! I called the installer and he said no way would they inflate to 50 psi.

I’m going to get my good gauge at work later, but other than the light steering, I’m liking the way they feel. Is there anything to worry about with overinflation (is there such a thing) on a DD?

More psi + same load = less contact patch. Hence lighter steering and reduced grip.

There are tire "technicians" that will just put whatever maximum psi shown on the sidewall. Seriously.

Or someone could've done 45psi cold, then it rose to 50 psi due to engine heat, friction and heat from concrete.

Or your cheapo gauge is off by some 15 psi...hard to believe though...

I had the Indy 500's installed a couple weeks ago. No complaints thus far other than a slight steering wheel vibration between 60-80 mph. Classic symptom of either an unbalanced wheel or a tire issue. I'll be heading into Firestone on Sunday morning to make sure everything is right and then go from there. IMO, probably one of the best bang-for-your-buck UHP summer tires on the market.

So..... worse than I thought... 55 PSI on three of them 56 on the other.

WTF??? Brought them down to 35 psi and car feels much better, but still a tad light. I’ll chalk that up to actually having tread on them.

Gonna call and ask why tomorrow and will report back.

Yup! Agreed. This is my second set and love them. This is more of a rant about my installer.

No one at the shop knows why and no one is owning up to it. Whatever. No harm no foul. DAIZY is happy with her new shoes.

FWIW, summer in Fl = lots of rain and while I only have the 'Hawks on the front I've never hydroplaned. They're planted in the dry on OE suspension and front sway upgrade. Wish they made a 305/35/19 rear as their 325/30/19 won't fill my wheel well as much as the aforementioned; therefore, I'm on the fence for rear installation. Not dipping below 305 as I enjoy comparing the 'lil Z's tire width to what look like spare tires in comparison, fitted on 'Stangs, Challengers and Chargers.

Currently running Nitto 555 GR2's on the rear which have been good as well; however, the price has skyrocketed. The Hankook's everyone likes are less spendy but not as aggressive looking as either of the previously mentioned. First world problems.......

I ran a few set of Indy500's on my personal car, I love them and agree with @Red_Voodoo. One of the best bang for your buck UHP tires on the market. We do move a lot of them at our shop
