Default Uprev and VVEL parameters

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows what the tables actually mean in the VVEL cam phasing section in rom editor. While it has been unlocked few months back, I dont think there are enough information on what the value/table means.. at least it is not as straight forward as cam timing on non VVEL engines

It has 5 tables

Valve Clearance Limit - Cam advance vs VVEL timing map
VVEL A - RPM vs VVEL timing map
VVEL B - RPM vs VVEL timing map
VVEL C - RPM vs VVEL timing map
VVEL D - ??? vs VVEL timing map
VVEL Intake Phasing - VVEL timing vs Cam advance map

From one of the post on the forum, Valve Clearance Limit table is a safety feature to keep the valves away from piston.. other than that I cannot find any more information

Does anyone have a breakdown on the purpose of the 5 tables?

Z-1 Motorsports has played around with VVEL in UPREV a little ... beyond that I don't know of anyone who really knows ... besides UPREV of course.

My tuner said he spent an hour on 09 and it did nothing. Just went back to stock. But he did a 13 and saw a 10hp gain. I can try to find out more.

Just throwing it out there.....wouldnt it be better to switch to VQ35HR heads with upgraded cams? This vvel is cobfusing and making me not buy the tuner uprev...

But for time and labor what are you getting? I'm guessing $1000 plus for a few ponies? If tsm like they're showing really cracks open the vvel I say stick with you're OEM heads because it's going to be hard to beat that with new ones.

while running cam shafts can be easier to work on, I believe VVEL will surely gain much wider torque band.

Pretty much like comparing cam pulley's back in the days for either mid or top end power vs variable cam timing where you can have benefit of both.. and with lift included this time!

Thanks Jordo, I somehow slipped past that thread, thinkg that it only had to do with the ignition timing part.

Now looking at it again, I am guessing that the table VVEL D could be related to the throttle position..

I am writing over those picture about MY opinion on it , I could be wrong or right. There hasn't been much info provided in the PRO email that Uprev sends their update. I am NOT an official PRO Tuner so its been a bit hard getting a bit more info on the subject other than their email update. Jared did respond when available though....

I haven't asked any specific details on those new available map since late last year (2013) So take what I write down with a gain of salt please.

Lets start with the first one.

VVEL Valve Clearance Limit

VVEL A

VVEL B

VVEL C
This graph look a lot to what I was logging when I had my VHR engine.
Depending how you setup your Cam Advance , I'm pretty sure this map could be setup quite more aggressively to act similar as a fixed cam.
On this map the VVEL is set low at mid-rev then open up at 4800

VVEL D
This map looks like a MAF Table but with the VVEL?
it does have to react very quickly at WOT or high RPM.
Which mean I might not be to far off !

VVEL Intake Phasing
Cam Advance is reduced while the VVEL opening up ! make sense....
