Default Anyone with tunes got hassled on your warranty?

Now that the 370Z has been out for a while and a few people have had their engines tuned, I thought I'd ask if anyone has brought their car in to the dealership and been turned down for service (under warranty... obviously they'll let you pay cash lol). I'm operating on the assumption that you have one of those gizmos that "fools" the service computers into thinking it's a stock tune.

I'd love to get a tune after I get my FI LTH and a pulley upgrade, but I'm wary of the service guy saying "Nice try, I can see you've gone to a tuner!"

I could be wrong but I dont think they look at the ECU every time you bring it in for something, along if it pertains to the problem. Plus just put it back to stock.

If you tune your car with Cobb...you have no worries. You can uninstall the access port and it returns the ecu back to stock. It leaves no traces. I did it with my STi for 2 years and I look forward to doing it next time I need to take my Z into the dealership (which so far has only been once).

Wait... I know the 135i's can now trace that you have loaded tunes even if you do return the tune to stock. Does the Accesport for the Z now trace this also?

They probably loaded the stock tune that was on the tuning device instead of uninstalling the tune they added. I cant see how uninstalling the new tune would be traceable, basically youre eliminating all traces of what was uploaded.

unless it, the ECU, keeps track of the dates it was changed. Kinda like a computer that gets updates every so often, they are tracked by dates. Im sure if they wanted to know they could make it so. Look at Toyota and their black box, they wont let anyone look at it cuz its tracking all kinds of ****.

And like a computer Im sure even though you wrote over one with another, its still traceable on the memory device.

But that shouldnt stop any warrenty work unless they can prove the tune was the cause, they shouldnt be reading the ECU just for the heck of it.

That's what I'm worried about.

No... the 135i guys were unloading the 'custom' tune and reloading the stock one and STILL it was traced.

I, like you both, do not think it will be that much of an issue as they will not check the CPU everytime you go in....

Thats because the computer stores the codes.. I work at a vw dealership and its the same thing with the tunes on the 2.0t motors. you can just read the boost levels on the ecu and know its chipped.. and if the chip was set back to stock normally the ecu stores overboost codes and you can tell that way.. nothing is fool proof even if cobb or whatever company tells you it is.

I have never had a problem at the dealership even with tunes and mods. On my Audi they fixed things knowing I was chipped. They just wouldnt work on the items I replaced but they did replace things that were stock but may have gone bad because of the mods.

nothing wring with upRev either... Its untracable and you can go to stock map as well... I was in and out of dealer with my g35 all the time without any problems...

Its wierd cause uprev was huge for the 350s and cobb was second fiddle seems other way around here..

i gained great power and they did actually add timing and play with it without any problems... i was using shell v power 93 but i doubt it helped all that much

Im still skeptical about this as its just a memory device, and like a computer, you can see whats been over written. Now are they looking to do that? I doubt it. If they wanted to and if they had the right device they could see if it was over written but they prolly dont look that hard. Im wondering if there is a date and time stamp when the ECus get written to also?
