In another post. He said his cut tank holds 6.5 gallons.

That's fine for a 20 minute DE, but anything more would be pushing it.

I get about 6-8MPG and do about ~24 miles per session. Not to mention I would need to fill up 3 times to get to the track. Cutting the tank in half isn't a practical solution if it's not a dedicated track car.
