Launching in 2nd with a Boosted Car

Anyone give this a try? Since the Turbo kit 1st gear is way to short. I have a drag clutch in the car that should be able to take the

Default Launching in 2nd with a Boosted Car

Anyone give this a try? Since the Turbo kit 1st gear is way to short. I have a drag clutch in the car that should be able to take the abuse and I think this would lead to lower trap times. Has anyone gave it a shot? I know on a NA car you pretty much need the 1st gear to help get you started, but it seems with boost this car pulls 2nd so well (even from right around 0mph).

I know with a stock clutch you would be asking for trouble, but this one I have is pretty stout.

I think id be more worried about F*ing up my second gear than the clutch

Or you could always just short shift it. I did it all the time with my Turboed Rsx Type S. Some people like to bounce limiter till they grab some short shift while when they spin. That's what I did.

Also a set of slicks or a good DR would help with traction also if your not already using it.

Bringing this thread back.

Anyone ever try launching in second? I have been wondering about this since with my TT first gear is a joke.

You can swap rear ends with someone like me!!! I have 2 auto diffs!

lol yeah. This happened.



The clutch will not even come close to taking it. I managed to pop the clutch in second to do a few rolling burnouts but then one time the tires didnt break free. lol

Thats the Ceramic 6 Puck, I believe stage 3 year. Well I tried to break the back tires loose and instead of them breaking loose the clutch decided that it would just slip. It slipped for about a second, I let off the fuel and it was the first and only time so far that I heard my turbo surge followed by a clutch that was then welded to the flywheel.

I had to pry it off with a pry bar and get the flywheel resurfaced. Needless to say no more second gear launches for me.

My car's not boosted (yet) but I did swap my 3.7 fd open diff pumpkin for a 3.3 vlsd pumpkin. Slightly longer gears and obviously the vlsd is way better, but I did lose cruise control in 6th gear. It still works in 1st-5th, but obviously 6th is where you really want cruise control lol.

For me my 1st gear is useless in a launch. It's just tire spin the whole time. I even tried to limit my 1st gear boost to 9psi and it barely helped. I generally brake boost in 2nd and that gives me a bit of tire spin but I hook and take off like a rocket (2nd-6th gear is at 17.5psi-22psi depending on what octane I am running at that time)
