DE had strong top end for what it was. It made its peak power at 6200 rpm and stayed almost flat till 6600. 6MTs that were close in a race at lower speeds against cars that compared to them usually had the advantage in higher speeds. 5ATs on the other hand were crap when it came to high speeds. 3rd gear was just too tall for the power band that the car had.
