Frost is correct, the 'elite' status was added after a few members already had 10k posts so they auto go it. I was around 9k when it was added because I remember slowly watching it go up and change over.
Not sure if it can be changed to include other rules to warrant the title, as it is tied to post count. Maybe if it is tied to post count plus likes received, more likes you have the less posts you need.
