Looking at the area on googlemaps, there's a large building with a big lot on the corner of Main and Texas Street. How about we meet there at 1:30 pm - 1:45 pm, and roll in together from there? We enter the car show lot at Texas and Crawford.

Hey guys,

It's me again. I am still having problem shifting from 1st to 2nd so maybe someone can give me some tips. Weird because it's ok when it's cold.. But when the car is warmed up and I shift from 1st to 2nd, I usually find it hard to put it into gear smoothly. I have to push it a little harder and sometimes get a clunky noise. Every other shifts shift are smooth. I have SRM on by the way.

I did some search on the forum and found people usually rev it past 3.5k rpm on 1st before shifting it to 2nd. I've done it but still doesn't feel right. So a couple of questions:

1. What rpm do you guys shift at?
2. Do you clutch in slowly or slam it to the floor?
3. Do you take the shifter to N, then to 2nd? Or do you put it directly to 2nd?
4. Do you get any clunky noise?
5. Is there a "right" angle I need to push the stick into? Or do I just push it all the way to the left, then down?

Sorry for my noob questions. I used to drive a Mazda6 stick and it wasn't that hard on 1st to 2nd. Thanks guys.

I had problems too when I went drifting. Scratched like crazy I thought it was because I wasnt pushing in the clutch fast enough or hard enough, even adjusted my seat to be closer. But tried it again and it still scratched when I shifted hard. After that it was boring slow shifts into second cause I was tired of screwing up my transmission.

Are you saying that you don't have this problem when you do slow shifts? Can you please explain how exactly you shift? If possible, please respond to my 5 questions above. Thanks.

Please bear with me ...

1. What rpm do you guys shift at?
When I was having problems I was shifting above 5k. No problems normal driving shifting less than 5k.

2. Do you clutch in slowly or slam it to the floor?
Problems when I punched it hard to the floor around the same time shifting. Normal driving I was balancing clutch and gas in and out at about 1 second shifts.

3. Do you take the shifter to N, then to 2nd? Or do you put it directly to 2nd?
Do you mean by nuetral letting it rest in the middle? I normally just go straight down.

4. Do you get any clunky noise?
Ive never heard a clunk, just a scratch and its only happend when quick shifting

5. Is there a "right" angle I need to push the stick into? Or do I just push it all the way to the left, then down?
From 1st to second there are no angles just straight

^^ Thanks a lot! That helps.

On (4), a "scratch" as a noise or a feeling on the shifter?

On (5), I find myself let it to neutral before pushing it to 2nd, hence the "angle". I'll try to go straight down and see what happens.

Thanks again chief. Will try to make it to one of the meets soon.

Maybe you should try moving through the gears while the car is off. it might help you learn the distance between gears.

Nah this is a noise you usually dont want to hear coming from the transmission. I think I will being paying for this later $$$$. But this is not the first time I hear of someone having problems with 1st to 2nd on a 370z, it seems Z's have tranny issues. Even the 03 and 04 350's had recalls on theirs.

1. 7500rpm
2. slam it
3. straight into 2nd
4. no clunk
5. you might need to talk to Ron about this problem because he just fixed my shifting issue
6. Good luck!
