If I can get a co-pilot, I'm in. I am a horrible driver though so I'll be in the back, granny driving. :driving:

Sorry Ms. Pintsize - I was out of town all week. Sounds like it will be quiet for the weekend?

As far as labor day goes; it depends if i get suite tickets to the Michigan vs. Alabam game in Dallas. If I do, i gotta support the Wolverines :)

Austin Cars and Coffee (in Leander) is on the 2nd of Sept. You should go with us to that -- We usually meet up around 10am, convoy from the Lowe's off 183 to Leander, and start leaving the meet around 12:30 or so.

People sometimes go out to lunch or so afterwards.

ShoFamous 08-20-2012 03:29 PM

Depends on how hungover (or still drunk if it was a really good night) I am that morning. It's my 4 day birthday bash remember lol...

Pint - Sorry you feel you were ditched and you felt it necessary to say "screw Houston" in another post. To set the record straight nothing could be further from the truth.

Here's what happened after you and JAR left for lunch -

Two of the cars in the group have intakes that are very susceptible to ingesting water when it rains. After you guys left, we got as far as a gas station at 620 and Anderson Mill Road. That's why we didn't join you guys for lunch. The invitation was appreciated.

Instead five of us huddled under the pump canopy trying to avoid the driving rain that started back up after we had gotten out of the cars. We stood there for over an hour.

We finally decided to chance it and ride it out across the street at a taco restaurant. The dash back to the cars ended-up on everyone being soaked from head to toe. Guru had to snake around the lot for five minutes just trying to find a way to the restaurant with the least risk from puddles.

Once at the restaurant, we had to sit outside at a damp table waiting out the rain. We watched the rain stop and eventually decided to take a chance at going back on the run with the understanding that as soon as it started raining again, we had to stop. None of us thought we were going to make it to Marble Falls based on the radar. It would have made no sense to call anyone to join us on a trip we had no confidence in completing.

I wasn't, and never do, monitor my phone, so I missed your texts. Frankly, I was more concerned about scrubbing a drive that I set-up for six other people 200 miles from home. I was the only person that knew the route.

Fortunately, we were able to make the whole run. We didn't attempt anything for Sunday because of the weather.

If we didn't want you to make the run with us, we would never have invited you in the first place. The fact that we hooked up later that evening should be further proof that no one was looking to ditch anyone. If I remember correctly, we exchanged at least four texts letting you know where we were. Once you got there, it was nice meeting David and Ryan.

Again, sorry we didn't get to drive together. Saturday was a pretty stressful day for all of us, and one none of us anticipated unravelling the way it did.

We hope to get back in Austin again, and will certainly invite both you and JAR. You guys are always invited to come drive with us in Houston.

Pintsize725 08-20-2012 09:29 PM

Fine fine, I'm a b!itch I know, I'll apologize. It just sucks waiting for a good drive with a good group and then not be able to do it.

Got to watch Expendables 2 so the day wasn't completely wasted.

Now which Austin guys are in for Saturday?

Negative.

NBZ34 08-20-2012 10:16 PM

Truthfully, it's not a difficult cruise. The Z's handle the S and U curves perfectly even at a 'spirited' pace. I'm also asking people to bring 2-way radios so we can stay together and not get separated. You can borrow one of mine if you like.

That mini cruise looks pretty good, Pint. I would definitely go, but this coming Saturday is Coffee N Rides in SA from 7-10am and then the local Z club is taking a mini cruise after. Let me know when the next Austin to Marble Falls ride is and I'll be there!

It was a long, frustrating day for everyone, so let's just leave it at that.

Suggestion - the next time I go up to Austin, it's going to be a day trip; i.e. I'm drving Houston to Austin, then the cruise to Marble Falls, and then making it back to Austin on FM roads. It will be a full day. I'm sure most of the others that might go will be staying overnight.

If you guys want to cruise back to Houston and spend the night, then you could meet us for Cars and Coffee in the Woodlands (first Sunday of every month), and then we could go drive out north of Houston before you go home. We'd have you leaving Navasota (off of 290) after lunch by 2:00 pm.

While we don't have Lime Creek Road, there are some beautiful runs through Sam Houston National Forest.

Something to think about and plan for the future. :tiphat:

Someone usually posts a signup sheet for the local Zs who want to caravan to Austin Cars & Coffee about a week before the meet.

We typically meet up at Lowe's parking lot off of 183 and 620 around 9:45-10am and drive up there together.
