Mario was the best pick out of the top three that year. Would we have rather had Vince Young or Reggie Bush? Mediocre running back or poster child for "How not to succeed in the NFL and at life"? Mario did fine, and he did pretty well in Buffalo after his wrist got operated on. Was he worth $100 mil? Hell no.
Houston is 0 for 2 IMO. Williams' first few years were an acceptable performance for an overall #1 draft pick. Since 2009 he's been pretty unspectacular. Overpaid for sure.

He was hurt pretty much the whole time, wasn't he? The full seasons he had were all double digit sacks, he just couldn't stay healthy if I'm remembering correctly.

Houston needs someone who can just not **** up. The running game is solid, the receivers are good and the defense is stout when the QB doesn't keep giving the ball back to the opponent. We need a Trent Dilfer.
on beating Alabama. I really love that A&M left the Big XII for the SEC and then went in there and started showing them how to play offense. It's really too bad they didn't lose to Duke in their bowl game last year

Trent Dilfer FTMFW!! That is exactly why we don't need the #1 overall draft pick. Plus, good scouting can find you plenty of good talent without have to be the first pick.

Yeah, every time someone claims you need an elite QB to win in the NFL, I'm obligated to point out Dilfer and Brad Johnson have exactly as many rings as Peyton Manning and more than Dan Marino. Hell, Rex ******* Grossman has a better playoff record than how many of the current $100 mil contract guys?

I think he was lost for the season starting in 2010. In 2009 he missed a few games, but the team actually had better defensive stats with him off the roster that year.

I'm not saying the guy wasn't good or isn't still good. I think I'm trying to say that he didn't perform adequately for Houston considering his draft status. Then again... how many #1 overall picks live up to the hype. Jamarcus Russell? Sam Bradford?

The #1 pick is pretty much a death sentence. Luck has had a couple good years, but before that I'm trying to remember the last guy who was really worth the money. Peyton?

That would be my answer. Peyton has 11 Pro Bowls. Vick and Jake Long have 4. Eli and Williams have 3. Cam has 2 and some potential, but the jury is still out IMO. Luck has one but is in the same boat as Cam.

Eh, physically maybe. Cam is a crybaby who never faced any adversity before the NFL.

Vick is a outlier since he spent some time in prison. Otherwise he might be on that list. Or he might have just spent more time on IR. Eli's got rings, so maybe he's the best on the list?

The only thing I'll say about Cam is that he seems to have grown up tremendously in the last year. At least his attitude seems to have improved. Jury is still out on his skill level. Luck appears to have the skills; he just needs a couple more years so we can judge his consistency.

Eli is all over the place. Watching his play the past couple of years, I cannot agree that he is the best. Trent Dilfer doesn't get credit for being a good QB because he has SB rings. Vick is probably the best out of that group, and that says a lot when you factor in years of jail time.

Cam's screwed now that he has no one to throw to. No Steve, no wins, more Cam sitting on the bench with a towel over his head. I can't imagine grown *** men looking at that spoiled brat wanting to follow him into battle, physical ability be damned.

Luck has the potential to be great. He's got the tools and the mindset. He still throws some bonehead passes and got lucky with defenders dropping a lot of would-be picks last year.

And in Eli's defense (and I really threw him in the mix as a joke), he did win one SB. As in, he grabbed his nuts and won the game (with some minor assistance from David Tyree). Trent Dilfer was on a team that won the SB.

Fair enough on Cam. I didn't see him sitting on the bench with the towel over his head as much last year, but that certainly doesn't make him a leader.

That's what makes Eli so weird. The fact that he stepped up and made $hit happen on the biggest stage just screams clutch. But then the guy has years like the past three where he seems to throw more INTs than TDs

He spent last year on his back. I think Coughlin needs to hang it up and they need a GM too. They've done an atrocious job of finding and retaining talent. I think a lot of the Eli hate is just because he's in NY. Either you hate NY teams as a rule, or you're a fan and everybody's a bum because there was a guy years ago who was better. Not to mention the massive hardon ESPN gets from anything NY whether it's wins or losses.

I'm not a huge Eli fan, but in his tenure as the starter in NY they've won two SBs. Brady only has one more SB win and two more SB losses and he's the second coming of Christ. And none of those SB wins happened after they got caught cheating.

Eli is either good or terrible, there's no middle ground for him. He can't carry a team like the elite QB's do, but he can make plays if he has a great defense supporting him.

He got all of the "clutch" in the Manning family, and Peyton got all of the "regular season greatness".
