2014 NFL Thread

Well the 2014 league year is off to an exciting start. John Elway appears to be going all in on this year after signing Ward, Talib, and Ware to big contracts. Revis Island is moving to New England giving us an instant upgrade over Talib and a great deal at $12M. Can we skip to the draft now? :happydance:

Subd... Sad to see Tate leave, but the Lions showed him $31 million

Too early to talk about throwball.

But, sub'd.

Oh, and I disagree somewhat with Dallas cutting Ware.

Unless they use that money to greatly strengthen the defense all around.

How badly will Houston screw up the first pick? I'm thinking we blow it on Manziel, because we have such a great track record with quarterbacks taken #1.

b1adesofcha0s 03-13-2014 08:40 AM

Well their first mistake is refusing to let go of Schaub. I think they should pick Clowney with the first pick.

Chuck33079 03-13-2014 08:43 AM

They need to ditch Schaub posthaste. Cleveland has expressed interest in him, which is the most Cleveland thing they could do. Clowney on one side and Watt on the other would be great, especially if Cushing comes back for more than a few games. Use the first pick in the second round for the best available QB or trade it for a journeyman we can get a couple of years out of. Unfortunately, now we need a good TE as well, and we'll need a solid backup RB since Foster is made of glass.

If you're talking baseball, :iagree:

Manziel FTL :ugh2: I have to admit I am interested to see how his talent translates to the NFL. I would just prefer him to do it on a team I don't care about.

I think Houston should trade their #1 pick if they can get a good deal for it. I'm not really up to speed on which teams might be trading up. Houston picking #1 = FAIL :shakes head:

Haboob 03-13-2014 08:57 AM

Nope. Baseball is about to start (< 10 days for the Dbacks' regular season opener).

I don't care to think about throwball (NFL) until about August for the fantasy draft.

I want him on a team that plays Houston, so I can see what happens when someone like JJ Watt gets his hands on him. Or Clowney, since the combine proved Manziel isn't as fast as we thought he was and Clowney is much, much faster than we thought. He will make Mike Vick look durable. :rofl2:

Johnny Football is going to get killed. If ESPN wasn't hyping him up to be the second coming of Tebow (minus the evangelical stupidity, and about 40 lbs of muscle), Little Johnny would be a mid 3rd round pick.

Not really. They're 1 for 2. Carr sucked, but he also got PTSD from getting hit one step into a three step drop on every single passing play for five years. We broke Carr. In an alternate universe where he was kept upright, he could have been mediocre.

Mario was the best pick out of the top three that year. Would we have rather had Vince Young or Reggie Bush? Mediocre running back or poster child for "How not to succeed in the NFL and at life"? Mario did fine, and he did pretty well in Buffalo after his wrist got operated on. Was he worth $100 mil? Hell no.

I know I was just trying to rile you up because baseball sucks and I know you like it because you're like that ;)

:icon17: Yeah I don't know why anyone would think he's deserving of getting drafted on the first day after watching him last year. I constantly watched him make bad throws and bad reads. Unfortunately, he had just enough scrambling ability to make plays out of nothing occasionally. I don't think that's gonna cut it in the big boy league...

He has enough scrambling ability to keep a play alive long enough to throw up a duck. At the college level where defensive linemen don't run faster 40 yard dashes than he does. I do like the guy for beating Alabama and pissing off Nick Satan. Err, Saban. I just don't think he's an NFL talent, much less a starter. A #1 overall pick? Child please. :rofl2:

Houston needs someone who can just not **** up. The running game is solid, the receivers are good and the defense is stout when the QB doesn't keep giving the ball back to the opponent. We need a Trent Dilfer.
