Or, speaking purely hypothetically since we know he's not a team player, but just based on his skill set, a CRonaldo.

I agree, not sure if i'd go with Pedro, I dunno, to me he just seems to lack that final decision, just watching the WC, the guy would get in positions to set his teammates up or score and just take one step too many or hold the ball longer than he had to. Iniesta is a good all arounder, but Xavi, man, I'd say currently based on skill and all around ability, he is the best midfielder in the world today. His passes are great, he never dispossesses, and when not facing a jabulani, takes good free kicks.

I'd like someone like him in the middle of the pitch paired up with a stout defensive midfielder like Melo or Schweiny with two wingers with speed and crossing ability.

Red370 07-14-2010 12:57 PM

Red370 07-14-2010 01:14 PM

I agree with everything you said. My only knock on Xavi is his apparent reticence to shoot. Sometimes, I wish he'd just bust off a shot to keep people on their toes.

I nearly spat out my water laughing. I almost fell into the same trap.

All things considered, he's been pretty solid for Atletico Madrid, if not the super stud we all thought he'd be.

Did we ever find out if that stuff about him being breastfed was true?

cow 07-14-2010 01:46 PM

Thread stuck. What are we naming it?

"THE 370Z.com OFFICIAL FOOTBALL THREAD"

??

phelan 07-14-2010 02:25 PM

the370z.com official arsenal > all thread

cow 07-14-2010 02:35 PM

I'm inclined to agree, except the last five years make me really hesitant to get cocky. There's only so long we can use the, "BUT THEY'RE BUILDING THE TEAM & PLAYING THE RIGHT WAY!!!!" argument before we're just supporting the team that plays the most attractive football but doesn't win trophies.

Breast fed? never heard that story. I do know that hes a whiny little pussy of a man for crying about rain in England. I may be mistaken but did I see him on the bench for Spain? And I agree completely about Xavi, he always looks to pass first, shoot 2nd, there are times when I wish the guy would just be selfish and bust off a shot.

The story (can't find a link) was that he was breast fed until he was like eighteen (?-- about the time he moved to Arsenal) & the lack of mother's milk was the reason he sucked in the EPL.

Jose Antonio Reyes wasn't on the Spain bench.

The name is in flux. I'm open to suggestions. I'm not open for "futbol" though-- we speak American here.

phelan 07-14-2010 03:29 PM

i just found out a coworker of mine is a fan of barcelona.

i'm tempted to now prank his cubicle in red and white.

cow 07-14-2010 03:31 PM

I like Barca too. Is that so wrong?

cow 07-14-2010 03:33 PM

Michael Ballack is a washed up bitter old man:
Ballack won't give up Germany armband to Lahm - ESPN Soccernet

Dude, the team played MUCH better without you. You were the broken-toothed gear forcing the team to play slow. Bow out graciously & retire from international play.

I wouldn't even pick Ballack if I were the coach-- where would he play? Schweiny's better & Kadeira might be too.

nope, but he's obviously on the other side of the whole fabregas fiasco. he hates arsenal for not letting cesc go home.

also...i find myself a fan of fiorentina. i can't explain why. i just am. weird, huh?

blue660r01 07-14-2010 03:35 PM

Ballack could still be in the squad.

blue660r01 07-14-2010 03:38 PM

Oh man David Silva completed his move to Manchester City

I was a Juve fan because of Zidane. I would like to see them do well, but I can't bring myself to care much about Italian football.

I enjoyed the way they played in this World Cup. Most of their team is even downright likable, but I'll never been a Germany fan.

I did root for them against England, though.

phelan 07-14-2010 03:41 PM

man city can kiss my arse.

also, with henry going to the red bulls i am now snapping up tickets for galaxy v. red bulls in september. looking forward to seeing my old arsenal hero on the pitch in person :excited:
