Well, assuming Matthew's keeps his collarbone in one piece, he may have a running game.

I think RGIII is going to be the next Vince Young

Decent QB but nothing special, good speed, good athletic ability and good size. But he is not going to go anywhere IMO. I think we will see him do the bounce around from team to team in a few years and then fade out and end his career accomplishing nothing just like Vince Young's NFL career :ugh2:

dmhenderson 09-09-2013 09:28 PM

I wouldn't go relegating him to the scrapheap because of one bad half of a game coming off of major surgery but that's just me.

:iagree:

Especially since he didn't play at all in training camp.

:icon17:
last year he was no where near the hype either though

I find the QBs that play that style tend to have very short hot spurts then dye out. I think Vick is the only exception who has been able to put up numbers year after year playing that style. That's why I don't see RG3 going anywhere, not to mention he is and will be injury prone already.

Rookie + knee braces already = short career and wheel chairs later in life :icon17:

that is Washington's own stupidity, they should have gave him a few reps even if it was just 1 quarter one or two times in the preseason.

He looked bad in the opening :ugh2:

He didn't get medically cleared to play in any game till a couple days before the season started so it's definitely not Washington's stupidity. Besides, he got them to within 6 pts of winning so I think it still went pretty well.

It definitely depends on whether or not they can adjust to be a more traditional drop back passer. There's nothing wrong with making plays with your feet as a QB, but you can't rely on that as your primary weapon. If you can be a great dropback passer and still make occasional plays on your feet, then you can be successful for a number of years. Aaron Rodgers is a good example of this. The sophomore QB's this year have the ability to do that as well. Kaepernick looks like he's there already. As far as I remember, I don't think Russell Wilson took too many big hits last season. Andrew Luck has been running for his life behind the Colts' crappy O line, but he can be a great traditional passer. RG3 I think needs more work in this and hopefully it will develop as he gets more playtime and experience.

LMBmikeZ 09-09-2013 10:01 PM

good points

I am just not sure RG3 wants to be a drop back passer

so far I think Kaepernick is the best QB to come up for some time now

b1adesofcha0s 09-09-2013 10:06 PM

I don't think he'll have much of a choice in the long term. Whether he learns that the easy way or the hard way is up to him and Shanahan. Definitely agree with you about Kaepernick. He could be the next Aaron Rodgers and possibly even more dangerous later on in his career.

Haboob 09-10-2013 08:12 AM

RGIII was favoring his leg. Afraid to step up and throw, hesitant to run.

They looked really bad last night, regardless of the "come back". That was more of the Eagles tiring themselves out - that Chip Kelly offense won't last very long, unfortunately. It was fun to watch, but I hope they all die (NFC East rivals).

I turned the SD v. Houston game off at half and went to bed. SD was controlling the entire game. Except for the second half I heard. :icon17:

Rookie QBs transition their play style to fit the offense. He doesn't need to be scrambling or running QB draws every other down to be effective. He's a solid pocket passer (shown last night in the 2nd half) with a great arm who has the added bonus of being mobile.

As for the injury, Tom Brady had a complete ACL/MCL tear in 2009 and has "done ok" for himself since then and Peyton Manning has a robot neck.

I tapped out after the first SD score in the 3rd. Woke up and checked the score and was shocked. Looks like the Texans defense finally knocked the rust off. Or the problem with the Chargers wasn't Norv.

You aren't giving enough credit to the halftime adjustments made on defense. Remember that no one had seen Kelly's offense run in the NFL before so the Redskins had no idea what to expect.

Chuck33079 09-10-2013 08:33 AM

So what's the timetable before Vick gets broken again?

I wish people would stop annointing him as god, and just let him play football, to me, I havent seen anything special. Russell Wilson Peyton Manning, and Colin Kaepernick, them boys, they go out and get the job done.

Dude, Vick played great last night.. I was surprised.

Chuck33079 09-10-2013 08:38 AM

Any QB can have one good season. ESPN needs to lay off the hype, but with Tobow gone they've got nothing else to talk about. RGIII, Wilson and Kaepernick have had one good year. Time will tell. Plenty of garbage quarterbacks have looked great one year.

He can play well when things are working. It's when he tries to force things he falls apart. He's not Superman like he was before prison. Now he gets broken when he gets hit, and the new offiense will have him getting hit a lot.

I left him off on purpose. I expect great things from the kid. He graduated from my high school, so I'm biased.

You're right about that.. I guess, me personally, Im sooooo sick of hearing about RG3, like he's the second coming... geez bro, let him play football. fvvvck.

My dolphins play them this week.

boarderbob 09-10-2013 10:24 AM

Those were two good games. I wasn't expecting much from the Eagles or the Chargers. It looked as though the Redskins made the right half time adjustments while the Eagles didn't adjust much at all. They're going to need to learn to do that, and give the ball to Brown as well. If for no other reason than to save McCoy from too much abuse. The Chargers game reminded me of the Chargers/Broncos game last season. The Chargers were up by a bunch, but they couldn't close on either side of the ball.

As for the young QBs, I take the "time will tell" approach. Defensive coordinators have a full season of tape to look at. They can break down any tendencies and plan around that.

:iagree: and if we are going to talk about QBs we should be talking about the two greats we still have currently playing!

Payton Manning and Tom Brady these two guys are no doubt hall of famers and are still putting up great, even record numbers! 7 TDs for Mr. Manning to start the year off :tiphat:

It's not quite time to pass the torch just yet. Both Brady and Manning have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl this season.

b1adesofcha0s 09-10-2013 11:32 PM

Shane Vereen put on IR (designated for return) and out until at least week 11. On top of that, Amendola is not likely to play in the game against the Jets on Thursday. :shakes head:

sucks for the PATS fans out there.........but for me! :woot:

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 07:48 AM

Did anyone actually think Amendola would play the whole season? Has he ever played 16 games? The guy gets broken every year. He's a younger, faster Welker, made out of glass.

LMBmikeZ 09-11-2013 07:49 AM

:icon18: very true his name is always on the IR :rofl2:

b1adesofcha0s 09-11-2013 08:24 AM

I think he did back in like 2010. He seemed to reinjure his groin in week 1, but still came back in the game and had an amazing performance. Hoping of he's out that it's not for long.

b1adesofcha0s 09-12-2013 07:38 PM

After the performance from last week and the injuries for Vereen (out till week 11) and Amendola (out 2-6 weeks), I was getting a bit concerned :icon17:
