Sounds good. I'm still tentatively planning a trip up there as well. I just don't know exactly when. It may be July.

Sounds good. We will keep it our little Carolina forum secret! My wife probably wouldn't be so happy if she knew I posted some of her shots in the wife and girlfriend thread. However my wifey can't be too upset. Maxim had them posted on their website for years.

No doubt. I got sunburt like hell. In all honestly I quit carrying about the weather when I noticed my factory crappy paint and when I noticed the fuel milage these rides can get when your foot is not so heavy. Anyways ill be back for the 4th of July so holla if you can make it down.

Cat code came up on my in house mechanics computer after about a thousand miles after install. Kinda had a feeling about it. Keep me posted on yours. I made some simple changes and he cleared out the codes so well see what happens from here. I dont feel confident with it though. Im gonna send a pm to tony and see what its worth.

Hopefully it doesn't come back. I had serious issues with the cat 02 on my S2K. I tried everything to fool it and nothing worked. Is your car tuned? I know some tuning systems can turn them off.

ClemsonWill 05-17-2011 12:17 PM

FYI: don't come to the Charleston area and think you are going to get aware from the Cops. Cops have shot 2 different people dead in the last few days for being upset over traffic violations. :wtf:

Rooskey 05-17-2011 02:24 PM

No my car is not tuned. I didnt really want to get an uprev tune because of the factory warranty. I did find some anti-foulers that come with mini cats in them, lol. Might have to get em if the cel comes back on.

HKYStormFront 05-17-2011 02:54 PM

yea uprev gives you the option to turn off specific codes, especially the catalyst efficiency or o2 codes

:iagree: the way I understand it..... It still reads just turns off the light indicator on the dash so you will be good to go. Plus with a tune you may get a few more ponies. I'm debating whether a packaged e-mail tune from Uprev or buying the full custom version and tuning it with a friend.

HKYStormFront 05-17-2011 04:18 PM

a true dyno tune is the best way to go will, several shops in the carolinas do it, not to mention Z1 if you are ever down that way. in charlotte, Cin Motorsports has been getting great numbers out of the VQ's coming through the shop recently. i may be getting them to tune my truck later this year. current list of money down the drain mods/repairs:

1) pay to install and program new TPMS (still waiting on part from japan, no rush tho)
2) clean rear axle vent and do axle vent mod (plastic tube up to behind the taillight where it can't get clogged again) and get pinion seal replaced
3) acquire intake manifold spacer and 6 nissan spark plugs, then install
4) tune the truck using uprev
5) start saving for clutch replacement and hoping it lasts long enough to allow funds in the bank instead of on credit

Down deep I know a custom tune by a professional is the best solution. I'm just trying to be cheap I guess.

Question: Since timing can't be changed, what all are they adjusting with the tune besides AFs, rev limiter, sensors, and maybe idle? I tuned the AF tables, V-tec engagement, and sensors on my S2000 (Hondata Flashpro) a number of times. I can't imagine Uprev being that much different.

If I have to take it to a tuner I will be taking it to to a local shop, AV Tuning and Development. The owner is a friend of mine. He's tuned everything from Hondas to Vipers.

HKYStormFront 05-18-2011 02:48 PM

you can adjust timing, i did a 2* bump on my timing when i was at uprev in austin a couple years ago (significantly reducing spark knock at idle instantly). that sounds about right as far as what all you can adjust. the only thing that can't be adjusted (as far as i know) is the VVEL system. an email tune will definitely be better than no tune at all but a true custom dyno tune for your engine and mod setup is the best option

Let me know when you decide to do this. If I keep having trouble with mine then maybe whe can get a two car discount or something. I would much rather drive to Charlotte than to Atlanta.

HKYStormFront 05-18-2011 05:03 PM

will do man! the more i think about it, i wouldn't mind going ahead and getting a tune for mine as is (no IMS) and just saving for a VK56 (titan engine) swap down the road. why? bolt ons and a tune should get me at or close to 400whp (which is plenty for my truck) reliably. plus i get the v8 roar :)

ok, cool. I didn't realize you could adjust timing. I appreciate the help Patrick!

I almost forgot. I spotted a silver 370z base (or base + touring) at Lowes in Summerville. It was parked near the back of the parking lot behind Verizon. Had a flat black roof wrap and tented windows. Looked good! Anyone??????

It will look sick especially if you get your wheel's powder coated gloss black! You need to post some pictures of your car.

BTW.... Where has Matthew been? Loser!

Rooskey 05-19-2011 06:34 PM

I dont think ill do the rims. Just not my style. I think Matthew's in Mexico. He is gonna miss out on the pics. Lol!!
I have been looking very hard at the BBS F1's though for sure.

well you know i say that... even tho we both have VQ's, they are pretty dissimilar, especially when it comes to electronics. wonder if 370's timing isn't adjustable due to VVEL among other reasons?

take a look at pics of my car if you want to see how that may look

I have a gloss black painted roof and certain other parts as well as gloss black wheels. Should give you a good idea.

Hopefully I can do it soon. I have my son all summer long but he will be going to his mothers everyother weekend in Charleston. We are suppose to meet in Columbia but maybe I can just bring him all the way down and spend a weekend down there. The only other mod I know to do after the intake is a CBE. I really want to here yours in person before I do that. How does it sound with the F.I. full exhaust set up? (louder, rasp, etc)

Rooskey 05-23-2011 07:31 PM

Oh yea forgot. Oil cooler is next on the list. Thinking of z1's medium size with a thermostat sandwich plate.

I like the sound. Has slight hiss when you let off the throttle and a very slight rasp under hard acceleration. All of which came along after the LTH install. Ext alone was perfect. Check out my journal for the full dyno run video.

I have a rattle in my drivers side can when the car is cold. I’m hoping I just have loose bolt. It too has only started since the LTH install. I should get a chance to get it in the air on Wednesday to trouble shoot.

That and brake upgrades are going to be my next mods. Why the Z1 oil cooler? I have not started researching them yet.

Drivers side  :shakes head:

What brakes do you have? I think im gonna try some stainless steel brake lines and some good aftermarket pads before I go all out with a new setup. The stock rubber lines flex under hard braking and aftermarket pads will grab harder. From the looks of it the disk are by far big enough. At least for what I do. Im gonna go with Z1 cooler because of there price, good service, and they really helped me out with my 02's (pricing) when I installed my headers. BTW how did you salvage yours??????
