That what I did as well having used left-over sheet of plastic. The difficult part is removing the screws that hold the tweeter in place. I used my mini socket wrench.

Tire Options
I only was able to get 22,500 miles on the stock tires.
I currently have Conti DW's. They are as loud as the stock tires over time as they wear.
Others like Michelins PSS for performance...
