So the Canon 500 monopod is a pretty nice, inexpensive, and lightweight option. It's built well.

The only problem is the mini-ball head tends to creep when you add the weight of a camera to it. The solution is to remove the ball head and either score the ball with a knife/metal file or sand it so it's coarse. Now when you tighten the ball down it doesn't move at all.

Not bad for $35.

Nice images. If like go see some of the colors pushed up more red in the title subtle color changes. Sensor dust in one of the images. The city scape I'd bring out the sky a little more and brighten the lights in the buildings and darken down lights in for front.

Edited a similar cityscape shot, let me know what you guys think

Subtle but definite improvement - very nice!

k20z3 06-02-2012 09:09 PM

To me I like the before better it looks like too much magenta was taken out of the sky. But again I'm on a phone, those lights in the for front need to be toned down.

Our eyes go to area of most contrast and that is too contrast burn it down or subtract yellow by adding blue and adding green fluorescent

Hi alch... Yeah just had another baby, then caring for all these cars too, plus time on other forums. Been so busy. I try to come here when I can. How are all of you? I see some great pics by all of you on this thread. Makes me jealous lol.

Marilyn (stang) is doing fantastic. Added a few more cosmetic mods to her. She has 1850 miles now and I've enjoyed every second of it. I miss my z sometimes, but Marilyn is my new love :). Wish I could have both.

I like that one better. My attention first turns to the city skyline. Previously the somewhat boring foreground was stealing my attention.

I like this one. I might play with the crop, either tighter to make it more like the birds were chasing the front one, or wider with more space on the left

Well guys, after lots of reading/comparisons, I have decided to pick me up a Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II Lens for 60D. I compared it two both the:

Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM
and
Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC

Seems to me that the Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II is shaper through all f-stops and zoom ranges even without the VC Anti-Shake.

So now to search for the Best Deal.

That's got a $50 rebate if you buy before June 30th.

Most places I found have it for $649-$50=$599. The "reputable" places anyway.

edit: Buy.com has it for $507.

Caught the Venus transit in between clouds yesterday afternoon, was really worried I was gonna get hosed by western Washington weather again after missing the solar eclipse a few weeks ago (4" Celestron NexStar Maksutov-Cassegrain scope, 1325mm focal length, Nikon D5000 camera body and a class A solar filter, prime focus shot, 1/1000 sec, ISO 2000):
