Others look much better with a more subtle HDR process. Each person has their own style they like. I really wish I had a copy of photoshop to use for HDR but I just can't justify the cost at the moment. Same for photomatix. I prefer to get the exposure as good as possible and use as little touchup as possible.
I agree. Using as little touch up as possible is the best way to go about photo taking as it involves more skill in using the camera, which I appreciate. Although I also think that editing can give you more creative freedom, which is fun for any artist. To me HDR blurs the line between reality. It makes photos look like surreal paintings which I think is a fun creative outlet for photographers. As I have stated Im far from a pro, I come from a drawing background. I can see how hardcore photographers wouldnt like HDR as it is too processed and seems like you need less skill as a photog to create a HDR shot. Though I do believe the end results are beautiful and can create a great sense of emotion within the picture. I def see how it could be a love/hate thing in the photo community.
