Yup. It's a major sleeper. Not as flashy and fas as the 300f2.8 but plenty sharp and light. My fav long prime is the 135f2, now that's a great lens. Also love the 200f2 but it's really expensive.

yea the 135 f/2 is on that same list. i <3 that lens a lot, can't wait to shoot cars with it on a FF camera... hopefully next year :)

The 135 f/2 is superb -- but 15yrs old now. For the price it's an absolute bargain, but as tempting as it is I wouldn't be surprised if it's on Canon's update list, adding IS to the next ver. On a 1.6x crop body (7D etc) you'll be at 216mm and IS is a definite advantage at that focal length, particularly in low light.

FWIW I quite like the pics from 6spd earlier in the thread. Nice atmos.

No new 135f2 coming anytime soon.

i wouldn't get any more lenses than i have now (17-40 f/4, 28-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/4, 50 f/1.8) until i get back in a full frame camera, hopefully later this year. things are looking that way if i can discipline my wallet after i get my credit card paid off and sell my 7D before the value tanks

Used values will rise in the short term. Start saving.

Any news on the 8-15mm delays and when they expect them to be selling in (decent numbers in-) the US?

If you want to save a few bucks buy a used v1 85f1.2. Same awesome optics but slightly slower focus speed. You won't notice much difference with a 7d

Yeah, I caught that too as soon as I opened them up on my computer. I'm having my sensor cleaned next week. Too scared to do it myself. These had no post processing, so I could probably brush those out in Photoshop.

Anyone here clean the sensor (low pass filter) on their own? I saw a kit for $90, but I'm hesitant. How much do camera shops usually charge for sensor cleaning?

I assume it shows up with other lens so is on the sensor.

If the dust isn't stuck, you may want to try a rocket blower or a plastic foot pump (press lightly) to try to blow the dust off. Canon recommends you don't put the nozzle inside the camera, to ensure you don't accidentally scratch the sensor.

Yeah, it showed up even after switching lenses.

It's like $10 for the rocket blower. I'll give that a shot before I take it in to the shop.

i've heard some people say it's better to hold the camera so that the sensor is facing the floor when doing that, that way when it stirs up the dust most of it will fall out thanks to gravity. i dunno tho, seems like if it's strong enough it should just blow it out. might be one of those "can't hurt" things do while cleaning it

Yea, you won't damage your sensor with a blower... That's the first thing to do if you see dust on your sensor. Rarely is it ever anything more than that. When changing lenses I am always more worried about getting the end cap on my lens rather than getting the other lens on the body. Reason being is that you can easily blow dust off your sensor... You can't clean the inside of a lens if you get dust in it.

They do say to face your camera down when you are doing that, which is true because of gravity, dust falls, if its facing up you are more likely to get dust in it. With that being said, you're going to get dust in your camera no matter what.

Buy a blower [ I have a rocket blower, very nice] and blow that mess out.

The dust on the sensor, if it doesn't move between frames, is probably stuck.

Remember that there is a shutter moving at rapid speed, moving the air near the sensor and causing strong vibration.
If it looks like a blob a blower will not remove it. The biggest problem is oily dust which leaves blob shaped residue on the imager filter. This can only be removed with a physical cleaning, best done by a professional.

How does dust get there in the first place? If you never change your lens you will still get dist. Some of it comes from within the camera due to wear but most comes from outside. Your lens is an air pump. WHen you zoom or focus air, and the dust in it, is drawn into the lens. This is attracted to the sensor due to the sensors charge. So if this is how most dust gets into your camera you have to address how the dust gets onto your lens.

The main culprit is your camera bag. Put your bag in a strong afternoon shaft of light and give it a bang (without cameras in it). If you see dust particles coming out of it replace it. You can try to clean it but this probably won't help. The foam padding in the bag starts to break down after a while which generates dust.

I saw this first hand, a customer bought a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III (early in the morning) for $8000, brought it home, put it in his camera bag and went out shooting. He came back that afternoon with complaining of dust on his sensor. It all came from the bag. The store sold him a new bag and cleaned his cameras and lenses and the problem went away.

i did a black and white, but i like these better, never been crazy about black and whites.

i like a good black and white shot, but i don't do it all the time, in fact, because i shoot cars almost exclusively, i hardly ever use the B&W tool

Hope you don't mind, but I played with B&W & sepia conversion, crop and rotation a little - I think you're right, it is hard to make a good B&W from this one:
