ok, got it! thanks!

actually i have no such equipment as strobes and tungsten... :crying: only the sun and low-tech shadeless ikea lamp with twisty white bulb :icon17: which i did not use in that shot.

that shot was taken in my garage with the garage door open. hahaha. :D

kenchan 08-12-2011 11:39 AM

haha yea overkill for my skill level but... i tend to jump in headfirst to things like this. Im enjoying myself so its worth it. However it will suck if in 6months or a year from now, all of my gear is sitting in the corner not being used. But camera gear is more of a longer term investment i guess.

I returned the canon t3i, my brother bought a 60D so i had to up my game and move to nikon D7000 :icon17:

What lens are you using with the 2X? I tried mine with my Sigma 105mm and my 70-300 which did better than I expected.

Wilsonp - I was abducted last night by some pissed off moon martians saying my flash was to bright :p

I've never heard of anyone say they no longer want to take pictures every again, so chances are, you'll never get over this hobby. Not great for your wallet at all since new stuff is always around the corner. I've probably spent more on camera gear & software than mods to the Z.

phelan 08-13-2011 12:43 AM

Woohoo, got an SB-700 for $250 :D

Would you guys quit buying stuff!!! I try to spend my extra cash on my Z, your all making me wanna spend on my camera. Its crazy, camera upgrades cost as much as car upgrades, jeez. Im still trying to catch up on the tripod discussion from the other week and pick up my Manfrotto. Now Im craving lenses and lighting equiptment!

Tell me about it. I'd have a nice set of wheels if I weren't so impulsive.

kenchan 08-13-2011 03:25 PM

wow, everyone's on a buying streak. :D (less me)

Hahaha, I once read an article by a photographer that said he figured for every two shots he "missed" it cost him a new piece of equipment.

I gotta tell you though, you guys are going to cost me an RC car. I have always wanted one...

Here is one of the cars the guys were running through the crowd at the regatta last weekend.

Alchemy 08-14-2011 08:28 AM

^ I just got back into RC recently. Its another pretty fun/expensive hobby (wish i could find cheaper hobbies). I was out of RC for awhile and a friend of mine bought a RC rockcrawler, I had never even heard of them. I thought the idea of going SLOW and crawling over rocks sounded lame. Ive always been more of a speed guy myself. Needless to say first time I drove his I was hooked!! Bought mine a few days later. So glad I got back into it. I drive it almost everyday and it gives me a good subject to shoot:)

phelan 08-14-2011 01:29 PM

still getting used to the speedlight...i'm not very good and figuring out the light and where to bounce light off of.

then again, i was practicing when it was still pretty good light out, so it was just overkill.

Flash would work on your camera, if you had a remote system with the TL system I think it called; Tungsten lights are your home lights the ORangeish ones.

Try One light source then, if its all tungsten put it on AWB then take a picture of an ALL WHITE surface or an (18% gray card if you have one you can buy them online) then it will calibrate all your colors.

Once you've shot a picture of an all white wall go to WB settings, and choose custom white balance find the picture with the white wall and press okay, you should be good to go for better shots.

OR as I always do is play around with my Kelvin temperature until I get something I wnat!

k20z3 08-14-2011 02:42 PM

Fourth shot is best in this series... Good movement. I'm not sure about the over-saturation of the images not sure it does any favors. But good shot

k20z3 08-14-2011 02:42 PM

To Everyone:

One of the best lens for the buck is buying a 50mm 1.4, it's like 200$ if that... It has a wonderful BOKEH (depth of field) and challenges you to be creative with your intended framing...

HKYStormFront 08-14-2011 02:48 PM

while i can't argue that it's not a good lens (because it is)... it is almost double that price now...

Wow what the hell!?

Thats ridiculous !

Heres what I've been up too Clint Earhart Fashion Photographer :) i dont like posting what I do.

k20z3 08-14-2011 02:53 PM

I just think alot of the members are shooting with like a 1/3 cropped sensor, so the 50mm would yield beneficial.

k20z3 08-14-2011 02:54 PM

I love full frame, because all the lenses are the accurate on them without variable tends to make lens choices less stressful

I feel like the fourth shot is overly saturated too. As well as some of the others. Long story short I have been editing my pics on my gf's pc. Poor monitor, hard to edit. I dont really see what they look like till i post on here and check via my droid. Im no pro but I love photography. Thanks for the criticism.

You want to stray away from over-saturating anything, so dont go into saturation play with selective color ! :)

I just think it's too much negative space for this, and it's contrast yellow with blue, so pano it, and you'd have a much stronger image.

*shrugs*

I like it because it shows off the nights sky as well as the buildings.

Parkerman 08-14-2011 04:39 PM

I do wish I would have dropped down a little lower on this one, but it was the last picture of the night as we were going to leave the pier.

Much better capture, look how this is more evenly divided.

wilsonp 08-14-2011 09:33 PM

I'd actually prefer the earlier one with a different crop, losing the castle on the right makes it less interesting to me.
