This is what happened, I went to Irvine, only day I had a car big enough to fit a hatch and wing, he was in a hurry to leave to catch a flight.
So, I checked out what I could, looked at it, but he's gotta leave and I'm in a dimly lit garage storage unit. Whatever, looked ok.
Get home, both sides of the hatch have the same damage... The wing and hatch isn't even for me, so I feel REALLY bad. But... F-it, I'll have it fixed, it's not the worst, just needs some clear to patch it up.

Hey, where are the other set of end plates? (For the wing) texted him, said I took them, I don't remember taking them, and he says the hardware is on the wing. Keep looking around. Nothing... He's already on the flight, I assume, so over a month, I texted him. Asking if he can check. I get no reply...

Look, I don't like doing this, and I am a patient man, but it's been A MONTH...

Again, if he replies, sends me the plates, no worries, no harm, no foul, I just want what was advertised.

Any updates?

Always the classy move when you're a seller and there's an issue with your sale. Buyer's not happy? Off to the ignore list you go.

Pretty much an admission of guilt if you ask me.

dmhenderson 04-03-2014 09:43 AM

It's not that the buyer wasn't happy. The seller didn't even complete the sale and the product was not as-advertised. That's fraud/theft in my book.

:iagree:

Well, to be fair, I'm pretty sure the buyer isn't happy because of the fraud. :rofl2:

dmhenderson 04-03-2014 09:49 AM

Agree. Just meant "not happy" wasn't an adequate description of the seller's douchebaggery

Edit: I need to stop reading this thread. It just pisses me off.

Well, yeah. I'm not here to provide in-depth analysis. I'm here to make snarky comments. :rofl2:

I got a Stillen bumper from him, got it painted too.

Sat in my climate controlled garage for months, just installed it last weekend and the paint it chipping off and cracking

dmhenderson 06-04-2014 04:52 PM

Is that a knock on the bumper or the guy who painted it for you ...?

cooltoy 06-09-2014 09:17 AM

The guy that sold it also painted it.

dmhenderson 06-10-2014 05:50 AM

Oh. Lovely.

Thanks for the heads up! Sorry to hear what happened to you. If you paid with paypal then maybe dispute it?

dmhenderson 07-27-2014 05:50 PM

Someone needs to sticky this post:

1) Always see what you're getting in time/date stamped pictures before you agree to buy or trade.

2) Always use paypal as your payment method with a funding source that isn't a debit card (credit card) so that you will be able to dispute charges should you be the target of a scam.

3) Always communicate ahead of time and during the sale. Work out every detail including shipping cost, condition, and damage clauses (liability) before you agree to anything.

4) Check seller's post history for prior successful trades. Not necessarily a red flag if they haven't before, but if it's their first post on the forums, you might want to reconsider.

Please explain why credit card is not a good idea?

Great advice, especially #s 2 and 4.
Always use a credit card, PayPal, or other method that will allow you to dispute charges. Never send as a (PayPal) gift - that's even worse than using a debit card (ie, no recourse at all).
Always do a web search for the seller. It can verify (but not 100%) that the seller is honest but can't always tell you if the seller is a scammer. A scammer can change usernames and sites (but it will help spot the stupid scammers :) ).

#1 can be faked by changing the time on the camera and/or using file editors. It's better than nothing but always be suspicious.

#3 is not 100% sure-fire but you can get a feel for the seller. If you see anything suspicious, bail out.

I read that as: Tie your PayPal account to a credit card, not a debit card.

cooltoy 07-27-2014 07:38 PM

That makes more sense.

I've made this post a separate thread sticky, and if you need to adjust it? just unlock it and re-lock when done. I don't want it open to discussion as it's only to help buyers.

If you can use a credit card, you should but most individuals won't (can't) accept credit cards in a person-to-person sale.

The next best thing is to use paypal funded by a credit card so that you can dispute if the sale goes bad. If you use a debit card, you have no recourse. Once paypal allows the seller to withdraw the funds from their account, there's nothing more they can do other than set the person's balance to negative. If they're a scammer, they likely don't care.

Personally, I think there should be some sort of escrow/wait period for sales like this but I don't think paypal offers that service.

Sweet, thanks. Edited the post a bit for clarity.

So I sold my springs last week and shipped them out to the verified paypal address on the account. Today, I was told that I sent them to the wrong address and that his account is outdated. He stated I should've confirmed the address w/ him before I sent them out.

I can admit if I'm wrong, but I feel like I didn't do anything wrong. Sure, I could've confirmed w/ him, but he could've also updated his account.

Who's in the wrong here? I've been threatened w/ slandering my name on the forums and suing from his uncle -- both that I find to be comical.

He's in the wrong. When he sends payment he decides the address. That or he sends it to you as a PM.

Take that from the master of buying and selling car parts

mag_black 08-04-2014 03:01 PM

^^ thank you!

He's about to slander my name soon. I've kept all proof of transaction and shipping address. The email I received from paypal w/ payment stated his address that I used to ship it to.

Trips 08-04-2014 03:08 PM

Reading everything NOW. I agree with De

Well, I googled both addresses and he's a little over an hour away. I offered to help him out w/ gas if he decides to drive.

That's too nice of you... Is he planning on slandering your name HERE? Because we will be backing you...

(Unless somehow you scammed me... And I sent you emails in the night from my elbow... Then the forum might back me... Jk, LOL!!!)

EDIT: if the new owners of his place don't hate him, maybe you can email them a shipping label? Might be cheaper...
BUT... That is something I'd do for someone who didn't threaten me.

mag_black 08-04-2014 03:18 PM

lol, nah, I'm telling the truth here. I would be bummed if I lost out on springs so I figured a little incentive to nip this in the butt and get his springs to put this all to rest.

I'm going to call FedEx to see if they can pick it up from the old address after work.

I agree! I will back Mag_Black too. Not only he is a buddy of mine. This is bs to me. It's buyer's responsibility to get the shipping address right in the first place.

What kind of springs, it might be cheaper for me to mail him one of my 10 sets to get him off your ass, then RTS the ones that went to the wrong address
